[Expired] [Targeted] Sears Mastercard: Get 10%/15% Back On Utilities (8/1 – 10/31)

Deal has ended, view more Citi Sears deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Check your emails for the following offer on the Sears Mastercard:

  • For total eligible utilities purchases of $400 or more made each month from 08/01/21 through 10/31/21, you’ll earn 10% back in statement credits. Maximum total of $50 in statement credit(s) each month for this offer.
  • Others got a similar offer for 15% back, up to $40. Some other variations as well.

The Fine Print

  • Must activate offer first
  • Utilities are classified as merchants that provide electricity, gas (natural or propane), home heating oil, water system supply services, collection and disposal of refuse, or the delivery of cable or satellite television or radio programming on a subscription or fee basis.

Our Verdict

You need to spend at least $400 in purchases in order to trigger the 10% offer; sounds like $400 cumulative over the course of the month across multiple different vendors will work. Max this out with $500 in spend per month to get the max $50 back.

I paid my Spectrum TVIinternet bill with this Sears card and it coded as “Restaurants-CABLE,SATELLITE,PAY TV/RADIO SERVICES”. Will this be counted as utilities according to this promo? I see cable as part of the description but have no idea where ‘Restaurants’ come into play here. I had the 10X TYP on $400 spent on utilities promo (max 5000 pts).

James Yeah, it should be fine. I did a similar promo for “Utilities” last year and prepaid my Dish bill and the transactions had the weird “Restaurants” label on them and I still got credited.

I don’t think it’ll code up as ‘utilities’ but I’m putting Consolidated Communications internet on the Sears and seeing what it codes up as. Right now I have 3 promos on the TYP Sears – 10x TYP Gas/Grocery/Rest $1500min, 10x TYP Utilities $400min, 10k TYP for $2000 spend between 7/20-8/18. Their promos stack btw.

I keep spreadsheets since Sears has so much craziness of minimums.

My offer is 10X bonus points per dollar if I spend at least $200 per month (10X bonus points + 1 standard point = 11X points per dollar) and a maximum of 4,000 bonus points per month. I love this card as I use the points for first class airfare; now the only problem is when it is safe to travel…

how were you able to transfer? given that the URL is separate, i didn’t think it was possible to consolidate with a different TYP account.

The offer that I received was 15x points if you spend $400 per month on utilities. Good 8-1-21 to 10-31-21

I had this offer last year and nothing that I would consider utilities classified as such. You may want to do a trial payment before attempting to max out.

Both my gas (Dominion Energy) and town’s general utilities bill did not work. I cannot remember whether I tried paying my Spectrum internet bill, but I will give it a shot this time around.

I made a $1 payment to Spectrum today. Unfortunately, it usually takes days for charges on my Sears card to post.

I see these deals quite often for the Sears card. How often is everyone getting these promo offers? It seems like I have been underrating the Sears card and need to apply.

I’m getting 2-3 different promos a month, it’s hard to keep track. I have 10x points on grocery/gas/restaurants minimum $100 total spend monthly July-Sept. I have 15x on travel, minimum $500 for June, July, August. I have 15x points on department stores June, July, August. I just keep getting them and don’t know why, but it’s been the easiest 200,000 point build I’ve ever seen.

I wish I had the TYP version, but I can’t complain; non-stop offers for 14 months.

I have the TYP version of this card. Received offer for 7,500 points for spending $750 during August. Need to pay medical expenses so it came at the right time. Had the same offer last month which I was able to meet with car insurance and tax bills.
