Update: Liquidation sales have not started yet, will post when they do start.
Toys R Us has announced that they will be starting their liquidation sale tomorrow. They hope to complete these sales by the end of June. If inventory sells out faster then they will close the stores earlier. As we’ve previously reported Toys R Us is no longer selling any gift cards (including Toys R Us and third party) but they will continue to accept Toys R Us gift cards until April 13th, 2018. Generally speaking discounts at liquidation sales start small and increase as closing dates approach. Goodluck to any and all readers that resell.
CNN is reporting that they are accepting gift cards through April 21st. I’ve heard so many different dates for this that I dont know what to believe anymore.

The blanket headline on all news snippets I’ve read is pretty misleading: not all stores will be closing for certain, and the ones that are may not start liquidating right away.
According to a store associate, the store by me in NJ needs to be appraised by a liquidator first before liquidation sales can even begin–if that ever happens (TRU is in holding out for a buyer to acquire some of its stores to continue its Canada business).
The only stores that are definitely liquidating seem to be the ones that were designated as closing earlier this year.
FYI, the stores are not liquidizing at this time. They manager said they have a possible bidder who may buy them. There was no liquidation sale in Tn.
Likely postponed until 3/23: http://money.cnn.com/2018/03/21/pf/toys-r-us-sales-started/index.html
I saw that Citi Easy Deals has some Toys R US gift cards for 25% off. I was almost tempted to get some.
Is this the end of GoC cards? I’ve never seen them at Best Buy
Seems that is the case as of now
Can still be purchased online, albeit in smaller denominations.
I reached out to them on Twitter and they said gift cards are available online, at HEB in TX, and at Fred’s (a pharmacy maybe) in the Southeast.
You can also make a direct contribution online but there’s a 3% processing fee, so that $500 sweet spot on the gift cards isn’t there but still maybe ok if you’re working on an MSR.
Ar they closing BRU stores too?
yes
