My transfer is already posted to AP, only took 3 days which I think is great.
What surprised me was that I was allowed to transfer any number of points… I didn’t have to round down to the next thousand… this way I transferred 20,655 Marriott to AP and I was able to get out of Marriott completely. Finally!!!
Now just waiting for the 35% bonus from AP to post.
did your 35% bonus post yet?
Nothing yet… you?
It posted this morning.
😉
I think transferring 60k is a good deal since I’ve found that points for flights are a lot easier to use. I actually decided to transfer all 90k points I had to get out of Marriott. For hotels, I find the hotels.com gift cards to be a better deal and you have a lot more flexibility with what hotels you can book. I value Aeroplan points at 1.5 cpp which gives the Marriott points a 0.675 cpp value after the 35% bonus but excluding the 5k bonus for every 60k points. When you factor in the 5k bonus if you only transfer in 60k increments, then each Marriott point is worth 0.844 cpp. I personally would value Marriott points at like 0.5-0.75 cpp so this is a good deal for 60k transfers, debateable for under 60k transfers.
I’ve found from DFW I can fly one-way in economy to Japan/Asia or Europe for 37,500 plus $7.50 CAD when you book a United flight with Aeroplan Miles. If you have 60k points and don’t have any plans where you’ll be staying at a Marriott, but need a flight then this could be quite good. Also worth noting, getting to Canada is 12.5k in economy one-way.
I’m personally going to pass on converting my Bonvoy points to Aeroplan Miles at this time, because getting the 5th night free when paying with points brings the value up to be worth at least $200 more to me even with this promotion.
uh, whats the verdict – is this a good deal or not?
Depends on if you like going to Canada.
Aeroplan’s also good for booking United/Star Alliance, and you can transfer from MR. Also good deals on Hawaii. I just booked a flight from Europe – had more MR than UR so it was better than booking United, and Singapore wasn’t showing the flight for some reason. But I don’t tend to make transfers until I know I have a use.
For me this is a good deal because I will top off my Bonvoy account to get to 60k and transfer them to AP and be done with Bonvoy… they don’t deserve loyalty.
I think I’m going to start dumping Bonvoys into Alaska. I don’t see myself taking advantage of any other airline partner deals, and most of the rest I can get from UR/MR of which I have plenty.
yes, that’s a good option too.
i am rich Alaska so not for me atm but if they had a bonus I would consider it.
Depends if you value Aeroplan miles, how you value Marriott points etc.
