[Expired] Twitch Prime: 12 Months Of Nintendo Switch Online For Free

Deal has expired, view more Twitch Prime deals by clicking here

Update 9/23/19: Last day to claim this

Update 5/27/19: If you claimed the first three months for free when we first posted you can now claim the other nine months (or should be able to in the next day or two).

The Offer

Direct link to offer (affiliate link here and below)

  • Twitch Prime members can get 12 months of Nintendo Switch Online access for free. If you have Amazon Prime then you also have Twitch prime (click here to connect accounts). You have to claim 3 months free first and then after 60 days you can come back and claim the other 9 months.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until September 24th, 2019

Our Verdict

You do need to add a credit card and after the 12 months is up you are auto enrolled in the program so you’ll need to remember to cancel if you don’t want to pay for Switch Online.

Terms say last day is 9/24, not 9/23

My understanding is if you signup for the 90 days free then you can get the additional nine months free in 60 days, since the September deadline applies only to the 90 day offer and there is like a Jan deadline to register for the free additional 9 months. Works out perfectly for me since I just started using my switch even though I bought it when it came out.

Thanks for the reminder. I was a little late claiming the first rewards, so I need to wait two more days to claim the second reward.

It asked me to pay $7.99 for the first 3 months. Is that right?

Great question. I am also wondering if there is any benefit to those of us that don’t own a Nintendo Switch

NSO is just the online service for switch games. With NSO subscription you can play some switch games online with other players. So if you don’t own a Nintendo switch then NSO is useless to you.

Short answer: No, not really.

Long answer: The only benefit to having Nintendo Switch Online if you don’t actually own a Switch is the ability to purchase exclusive Nintendo products available only to Nintendo Switch Online members.

At the moment though, that’s still not so helpful. You can purchase exclusive NES and SNES controllers. These are Bluetooth controllers, but those Bluetooth controllers don’t work well out of the box on the PCs. With a little knowhow and 3rd party programs, you can get those controllers to work with the PC. But it’s not as easy as it could be. Those controllers are made to work with the Switch after all.

Does anyone know if this works for an Amazon Prime trial? I don’t have Amazon Prime right now but was thinking of signing up for a new trial anyways.

I think you would be able to get 3 months for free, see the FAQ:

This offer is available to Twitch Prime members only. If you aren’t currently a Twitch Prime member, click the “Try Prime” button above to start a free trial of Amazon Prime.

It makes sense that they set it up as 3m then 9m in order to let you try it.

IT seems you can turn off auto-renewal so you shouldn’t have to cancel later. The sequence is [Your Username] > Settings (or Account Settings) > Shop Menu > Subscriptions Settings > Turn Off Auto-Renew.
If you don’t see the Subscription Settings in the Shop Menu scroll down, it took a minute for me to realize that there were options below the payment settings.
Also, you’ll want to check it again after you add the other part in 60 days. If it is anything like Playstation it’ll reactivate Auto-Renew when you redeem a new code.
