The Fine Print

• $250 cash bonus is valid for any new LegacyTexas Maximum Checking account opened between May 16, 2016 and July 15, 2016 and is limited to one per account. Offer not available to existing LegacyTexas personal checking account customers (including all signers on joint accounts) or those who have closed a LegacyTexas personal checking account within the past 12 months of opening a new account as part of this promotion.

• To receive the cash bonus, you use the promo code MAX2 when opening the checking account online at LegacyTexas.com and have qualifying direct deposits into the account.
• “Qualifying direct deposits” are recurring direct deposits of a paycheck, pension payment, Social Security payment, or other government benefits payment electronically deposited into your new personal checking account on a recurring basis, at least monthly, from an employer or an outside agency.
• If we determine you have met the terms of the offer, the cash bonus will be deposited into your new LegacyTexas Maximum Checking account on the Payment Date. “Payment Date” means approximately 120 days after account opening. The account must be open and in good standing on the Payment Date to receive the cash bonus.
• To maintain a Maximum Checking account, you must (a) receive a monthly direct deposit OR (b) use our online bill pay to make at least ONE bill payment per month. Avoiding Fees

There are no monthly fees or minimums on this account, according to this comment there is no early account termination fee either. You do need at least one direct deposit or one bill pay per month to keep the maximum checking account open though.

Our Verdict

We posted about a $150 deal with the same conditions previously, but thankfully reader Jared found this better offer. Pretty good bonus, we just need some data points on what counts as a direct deposit. If you can easily change your employer payroll I’d recommend this bonus. Because this bonus is now for $250 I’m adding it to the list of the best checking promos. You also need to make sure you do a monthly bill pay or direct deposit, otherwise the account will revert to a free checking account and you won’t be eligible for the bonus.
