Original post: According to Reuters the U.S./Canada border will remain closed until at least late July. The border was first closed towards the end of March due to COVID-19 and is officially closed until at least June 21, 2020. Sources state that they will look at whether to reopen the border or extend the closure further as the late July deadline approaches.

Also – the linked article says “All travelers coming into Canada, regardless of vaccine status, will need a negative PCR or molecular test within 72 hours of requesting entry.” Still looks to be a bit of a PITA for my friends and family that live near the border.

Reciprocity? Canadians have been able to fly to the US, even without vaccination, throughout the entire pandemic.
Some Canadians have 2nd homes or vacation homes miles from border crossings and haven’t been able to get to them for 16 months. It isn’t always practical to fly and rent a car and spend a day to get somewhere you would otherwise be able to drive to in an hour or two for a fraction of the cost.
The country with the highest number of infections and deaths has no mandatory quarantine. How strange and sad.

If you haven’t been paying attention, the Canadians are crazy about Covid. It’s like the USA would be if we were just NY and California. In some provinces, they’ve had very little Covid, which makes it even worse (the less Covid you’ve had, the more afraid of it you are). Unless there’s a revolution in Canada, I don’t see how they’ll open the border this summer.
