U.S. Ends Covid Test Requirement For International Travelers on June 12th

The US just announced they are dropping the Covid test requirement for international travelers entering the country. The new rule will take effect on Saturday night after midnight – 12:01am EDT on June 12th. The change comes after much lobbying from the travel industry to remove the requirement. Many other countries have already stopped requiring Covid tests as well.

Maybe it’s just me because I’m a straight white cis Republican male in the Midwest, but this seems just like an intermission in the interminable political theater that continues to drown this great nation of ours. People keep trying to reinvent the wheel and nothing ever changes. See you all for the sequel.

You can drive into the country with no test. But when you fly in you need to be tested. Joke.

Now if they could just enact an anal swab covid test requirement for parents traveling with crying children.

What a joke this “free” country has become that even so called “authoritarian regimes” like Saudia Arabia have long since gotten rid of the requirements, but the US regime is only now getting rid of it even though the corrupt motives and actions of the unelected bureaucrats of the CDC have been brought to light months ago. And even though the testing requirement has been dropped, the vaccination requirement for non US citizens still remains. Meanwhile more than half of Europe has no “c0vid” requirements whatsoever.

My beef is that my NATURAL antibodies are over 5000 and it counts for fucking NOTHING because our CDC “doesn’t know.” Well, shouldn’t they fucking know something yet?

They damn well know who’s buttering their bread and how much they like the power to harm and oppress regular people. What else did you expect from these sick freaks in power?

It’s not about your health. It’s about their political power.

Fully vaccinated internist here,

About time they drop this requirement. You could technically be covid positive, fly to mexico or canada untested and drive across the border without being tested. You could also fly back from Puerto Rico or Hawaii and be covid positive and not be tested prior to departure.

This requirement was similar in stupidity to the blocking entry of fully vaccinated EU citizens but not unvaccinated travelers from Latin America (My parents are Dominican) so long as they tested negative prior to flight.

Not only that, it is criminal to ban entry to fully vaccinated US citizens and residents unless they get a negative covid test. On my flight back home from Europe this past April, I assisted a passenger with a likely viral gastroenteritis. This passenger tested negative for covid but had another likely viral illness. Are we going to apply this policy to all viral illnesses?

Unfortunately politics and bad policy on both sides of the aisle has seeped into my profession.

The only “two sides of the aisle” are people in power and people being oppressed by power…

Not both sides, only one side is authoritarian and think they know what’s best for everybody for any sociological, economical, political or now medical issue.

What has seeped into your profession is that you can’t be trusted – you follow the lies of the WHO, not your hippocratic oath.
Where are we on the theory of the bat biting the pangolin by the way?
I am still waiting for people to be held accountable – it was a lab leak and there should be people in jail, starting with Fauci.

Just to be clear, the reason that such a requirement exists at this point is because they are worried about someone bringing a previously unknown variant into the US. Essentially it slows the spread of new variants across international borders. It strikes me as foolish to remove this requirement. While hopefully you are fairly safe on the plane, it’s not a certainty. You’re spending long periods of time potentially next to someone who may be infected, and both of you have no masks on while you’re eating which is when you’re spreading most of your cooties. Meals are all served at the same time. So the chances of getting it from someone near you on an international flight probably are pretty decent despite the air circulation.

No. People who wore masks, got vaccinated, and practiced social distancing is the reason why we didn’t have 3M COVID deaths. Instead, we had 1.5M.

Nah, all the theater games practiced by neurotic hypochondriacs only prolonged the hysteria over the sniffles and now you feel like you deserve good boy points by obeying what quasi authority figures told you to do.

The real heros are those that ignored all this nonsense, the theatre and are still pure bloods and didnt allow them selves to get bullied or stigmatized in the hysteria you allowed yourself to. They have integrity and deserve respect, you do not.

You have to balance it with the undue burden on the international passengers of arranging a covid test a day before departure, and the hanging sword on their head of being unable to return home.

You’re missing the whole point. At this point in time, there is no reason why %98 of the worlds population should give a crap about getting “c0vid”.

> it slows the spread of new variants across international borders

If I take that at face value I still don’t see the point. If it’s going to happen anyway, what good is making it spread half as fast going to do anyone?

This is good to know, but the comments section for this is just going to be another shitshow.

Whenever a COVID-related post goes live on a Friday, the mouth-breathers without weekend plans spam the shit out of it until the comments section is inevitably locked on Sunday night. And by then, no meaningful discussion has taken place whatsoever. Will says that he’s worried about spillover into other articles, but that’s never happened. Please just disable comments in the first place.

Not so sure about this one. I know lots of people who supported vaccines, masks, etc., but they still thought this testing requirement was dumb, myself included.
