United, Hilton & Delta Send Out Surveys Regarding Possible Credit Card Changes

United & Delta have both sent out surveys regarding some possible changes to their co-branded credit cards. Both Chase (issues the United card) and American Express (issues the Delta card) have been making changes to their credit card line up, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we do see some of these changes in the future. That being said these surveys are sent out on a frequent basis and often no changes are made.

United

A lot of the survey was asking what offer you’d be more likely to choose. Each option contained the sign up bonus and a list of benefits, most of the benefits were the existing benefits but there were a few new options:

  • 6x miles per $1 spent at many popular retail stores, restaurants and online merchants (MPX)
  • Use miles for credit towards a United ticket purchase (e.g 20,000 miles = $200)

Delta

Keep in mind the addition of benefits was being talked about across the full suite of Delta cards (and the Reserve has a $450 annual fee). Some things considered:

  1. Lyft credits, $10/month or $200/year
  2. Price protection on flights, if the price changes within 10 days of booking you automatically get refunded
  3. Extended free cancellation up to 1 week after booking
  4. 0% APR periods for Delta purchases
  5. 2x earning on gas, groceries, or restaurants
  6. 2-5x earning on all travel
  7. 3-5x earning on Delta
  8. Waived guest fees on SkyClub access with Reserve
  9. Upgrade priority with Reserve regardless of Medallion status

Hilton

This was specifically talking about the Aspire card and was asking cardholders if they would prefer:

  • One annual free weekend night + $250 resort credit (current benefit) or
  • Two annual free weekend nights (proposed change)

United really needs to step up their game. Why put everyday spend on a United card when I can use Chase’s own cards to earn UR at a more favorable rate, then convert to United miles? How about a companion ticket? Maybe bring back the Presidential card perk of earning PQMs?
The real killer is 5/24 though. There are people that spend tens of thousands of dollars per year on United flights that can’t get a United card because of 5/24.
They need to renegotiate with Chase to remove that restriction from their United card lineup.
Personally, unless I can get an in-branch pre-approval, I’m not getting a United card anytime soon.

Two weekend nights on the Aspire would be amazing. The resort credit is a pain.

Why there is no 2*$250 resort credit option for Aspire…:)

Two weekend nights, please. That’d be awesome. Myself and P2 would both get cards, then I could buy 4 nights + 1 with points for an epic 9 day getaway somewhere.

#9 if it was on the Delta Reserve doesn’t make any since if they pulled other benefits to make room for it. As a silver, I rarely get upgrades and it’s really only on really short routes on CRJs or that one super rare time I’ll travel on a Wednesday night from a non-medallion heavy city. If I understand the benefit correctly, this would put you behind all silvers in upgrade priority which means upgrade to first very very rarely or getting put in a middle C+ seat which isn’t really an upgrade at all.

Would LOVE 8 and 9 for Delta Reserve. I’ve been on the fence about MS-ing it to get Medallion status, but $50k in a year is too high for the “perks” it currently gives. I think adding some additional features would definitely sweeten the deal.

Of note, many of the choices presented for Reserve card removed the free unlimited Sky Club entry for card holder replaced with two free certs and $29 entry. Good chance unlimited entry goes away.

Good to know, if they do remove it, then I’ll just keep the Platinum card lol

It seems hard to believe they would discontinue this for customers who have the Reserve while allowing Amex Plat members to keep free entry though I could of course be wrong. I mean, it’s really kind of a joke the way it’s setup up now. Why would anyone who has the AMEX plat want to use the Reserve card outside of maybe getting the initial signup bonus/MQMs? I get wanting to keep it for the companion certificate, but if I want to book a Delta flight, I can get 5X on the Amex Plat currently plus the lounge access. And yes, the Plat card now has a slightly higher annual fee but it provides infinitely more value.

I would suspect Amex Plat would also lose free unlimited lounge access if Amex does decide to cut it on the Reserve.
