For some time the United gift registry has not been working and it has been down for maintenance with no notice of when it would return. They have now updated the page and it states it will be back up and running in early 2018. The full message is as follows:
- We’re sorry, our gift registry page is currently unavailable for maintenance. You can still use the funds from your gift registry to book travel during this time, but you will not be able to receive contributions or update your registry details. We expect the page to be up and running again in early 2018.
I wonder if this has more to do with the new Chase United TravelBank card or if it’s something to do with the American Express Platinum travel credit. Not entirely sure why United would care about the latter.

We have 550$ on travel bank that is now expired. Ive been trying since December of 2018 to use it, but the system has been down .. Its kind of ruining all my vacations plans. I purchased gift cards online to save money for my vacation , and its backfired by uploading them. They are really good at taking my money. My husband has been on the phone with them for hours. If anything happens I will post.
I had about $200 in the travel bank and was still able to use it today to partially pay for a flight. Adding to the travel bank is still down but you should be able to draw from previous deposits when you get to the payment page. One of the drop downs will show your balance and you can choose how much of it to use to pay for your ticket….

Amex time to change preferred Airline is ususlly by the end of Janurary.
It seems a bit unaceptable that United wouldn’t have this up and running over this time frame. What if someone actually had a wedding occour during this down period. lol.
Makes sense to me they would care even about Amex, if people are buying from united that’s still money in their pocket vs delta or whatever other airline, a lot of people probably try to use up their credit right away while proven methods are still working, so united would potentially be losing out on quite a chunk of change.

The gift registry funds don’t work on taxes and fees of award flights. I’ve had $100 sitting in my account for years now from some Amex card purchase years ago.
Yep, they can only be used towards a paid flight, and they can’t be combined with other forms of credits or vouchers. It’s roughly equivalent to an AA or DL gift card.
Annoying when it’s not considered just another form of payment.
Hope it is online when the new HHonors Aspire card appears!
