The Fine Print
- During the “April 2019 Button Install Bonus” campaign, which runs from 04/26/19 through 05/02/19 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Members will earn a one-time bonus of 500 MileagePlus® bonus award miles (the “Bonus Miles”) when they successfully install the MileagePlus® Shopping button (browser requirements detailed on button page) and use the button to spend $50 or more in qualifying purchases during the Bonus Period.
- To qualify, members must also keep the button installed for a minimum of 30 days after the end of the Bonus Period and must not have installed the button previously before the Bonus Period.
- The Bonus Miles are in addition to any standard MileagePlus® miles earned from shopping online through the MileagePlus® Shopping mall. “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.
- Please see the MileagePlus® Shopping mall site for details on product eligibility and other restrictions.
- Please allow 8-10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus® Shopping account.
- Limit one bonus redemption per member. Void where prohibited by law.
Our Verdict
Nice little 10x miles per $1 spent if you spend exactly $50. As always make sure you compare portal rates using something like cashbackmonitor.

FYI
4/30: Button (United) installed, $50 purchase made
6/19: 500 miles posted
Is this offer targeted?
Not seeing the banner you have pictured above anywhere on the United or MileagePlus website, even when using the link you provided.
Is it $50+ for one purchase or multiple purchases?
I wasted a lot of time trying to use the UA button (on Chrome). Once I installed the button, I could not get free shipping on Walmart.
Doesn’t work with Apple products
Do you mean on IPad?
What are the privacy implications of installing big brother buttons into our browsers? (esp. if it’s chrome) Under the t&c, seems we give up any right to privacy… “You acknowledge that in order to administer the Program and the Network, we will collect information about you and your purchases…..” Have no problem with the purchases part, if that’s where it stops…. but in effect, this is like Alexa, by installing and turning this on…. we apparently give “big data” unlimited license to snoop…. where does the collection of information stop? (if ever)
Yes, Chrome extensions can see a lot more of what you do than many realize. If it doesn’t require you to keep it installed for a certain amount of time for the bonus, you could install it just long enough to get the $50 spent, and then remove it. Edit: nope, 30-day requirement. I guess you’ll just have to skip this offer if you’re concerned about privacy, as I assume they’d disqualify you for leaving it installed but in a browser you never use again for the rest of the 30 days. 😉
FYI: Only works with Chrome.
Does this work with the $50 AMEX Plat Saks credit?
Should do
Any ideas on the easiest way to make a $50 purchase? I was thinking to do a $50 purchase from Booking.com for a hotel.. but then my trip got canceled. so I’m wondering some other easy ways.
do a target gift card is my vote
any gift card from staples
Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents.
Yup, according to fine print. Waiting on DPs though, as this isn’t always enforced.
I got lower offers for alaska (250 miles for $50 spend by 5/7) and AA (250 miles for $50 spend by 5/2). No idea if these are targeted.
