Avoiding Fees
Monthly fee of $9.99 is waived if you have a deposit of any amount to the checking account that month. We couldn’t locate their fee schedule so I am unsure if there is any early account termination fee or not.
Our Verdict
Given that it’s a hard pull if you open online, I’d open in branch and confirm that I was eligible for this offer before signing up. Although in the past they’ve offered a sign up bonus of up to $200 publicly, and lots of $150 bonuses so I’d probably just wait for one of those.
If you didn’t know already, Charter One has finally taken on the Citizens Bank brand name as well. We’ve added this bonus to our database, if you didn’t receive the targeted offer and sign up anyway – please let us know how you get on with this bonus in the comments below. As always I’d recommend taking a peak at our recommended bonuses.

Hat tip to Mighty Travels
Several years ago I opened a Citizens Bank account online close to the deadline. Several weeks after meeting the requirements for the promotion I called to ask why I didn’t receive my money. They informed me that the account needed to be opened before that date. Even though I applied before the deadline they technically didn’t open my account until about a week later through no fault of my own. The reason I’m mentioning this is to show they are a very unfair bank. That’s why I really doubt they will give anyone the bonus unless they specifically received the email.
Hi Eric, sorry to hear that. If something similar happens in the future then you should strongly considering filing a complaint with the CFPB.
