The Offer
- American Express are offering 5,000 SPG points for American Express personal SPG cardholders if they use their enrolled card to spend $5,000 before December 31st, 2016.
The Fine Print
- Enrollment must be completed by October 31st, 2016.
- Spend must be completed by December 31st, 2016
- Purchases may fall outside of the Purchase Period (and therefore not qualify for the extra points) in some cases, such as a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction. (For example, if you buy goods online, the purchase date may be the date the goods are shipped.)
- Qualifying purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchases of traveler’s checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of any cash equivalents.
Our Verdict
There is a similar offer on the business version of this card (although you can earn a total of 10,000 points). Usually American Express sends these offers out to people who will have their annual fee due during the offer period. This basically gives you 2x SPG points per $1 spent if you can meet the $5,000 spend requirement. Keep in mind you can also transfer SPG points to Marriott at a rate of 1:3 now as well.
