[YMMV] Two $5 eBay Giftcards (Or More) For Filling Out Form

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Fill out the above form and if you are able to submit the form then you’ll receive two entries into prize ball. Minimum prize is $5 eBay gift card

The Fine Print

Full fine print here

  • Valid until October 9th, 2016
  • Not everybody will be eligible

Our Verdict

This is hosted on eBay.com, so it’s a legitimate promotion and so are the gift cards. For some reason some e-mail providers are listing it as spam or suspicious content, but it appears legitimate to me. Unfortunately most people won’t be targeted, but a number of readers reporting receiving the gift cards even though they didn’t receive a targeted e-mail about this promotion.

AMOE Code Request
Please fill out the information below to get codes to enter the promotion.

I keep getting this it doesn’t say ineligible or eligible?

You need to fill the form out and submit it before knowing whether you’re ineligible or not.

Ineligible 🙁

FYI, the way you described this ‘offer’ is a little misleading. This is actually an instant win game, for which the rules are well-documented (as they should be by law) here:
https://play.ebay.com/prizeball/en-GB/Rules
The promotion is targeted towards sellers (maybe first-time sellers? Because I’m a pretty frequent seller but I wasn’t targeted), and the ‘normal’ method of entry is to sell any item on eBay, but (again, as required by law) you can get free entries using the linked form as well.

If you’re eligible, you would receive two free game plays by email, not eBay GC. As the document shows, the most likely game prize is indeed a $5 eBay GC, but there are a total of 1340 prizes that are worth more, up to $500 eBay GC. So as you can see, it’s not the same as receiving two $5 eBay GC in your email 🙂

Also this prize ball promotion has definitely been offered several times in the past before, I don’t think the mechanics have changed significantly since the last time

DP:
My SO’s acc was targeted, but she’s never sold a thing on her acc before (and she’s only ever made a few purchases, so her acc barely has any user rep).
Definitely targeted towards first-time sellers…

Jay
Jay

Just checked my SO’s eBay inbox for the targeting message about this promotion.

“The prize ball is packed with tons of rewards! Sell your first item and you’re *guaranteed* to win an eBay Gift Card worth $5 or more.”

(Except many people seem to forget to check the NO PURCHASE NECESSARY fine print for alternative methods of participation. I would imagine that the final value fee that eBay bills you after each successful sale counts as a purchase in this case)

Yup, that would explain why my account didn’t get targeted.

This looks scammy when I click on that link. No way for a measly $10 bucks.

Jay

The website’s SSL certificate is verified by Symantec and registered to eBay, Inc. The domain is a subdomain of ebay.com. It’s linked explicitly in https://play.ebay.com/prizeball/en-GB/Rules. I’m sure eBay doesn’t want its targeted audience to realize that you can get free plays without selling, so the page looks sufficiently sketchy and link-free for that purpose. What other proof do you need to assuage your paranoia?

Thanks, both my husband and I got the eBay prize ball emails but I thought you had to sell something to play. Filled out the form and received the codes.

$25 Ebay gift card and $5 Ebay gift card. Not bad.

Here’s the $5 code I get on my iPad and Microsoft computer after filling out the form…

It means the server is trying to access an object that is set to null (contains nothing).

Imagine asking someone to pour you a glass of milk from a milk jug with no milk in it. Better analogy: the milk jug doesn’t even exist, but you insist that it does. Computers tend not to handle this so gracefully.

Try again? It worked fine for me.

J.

A better way to say it is you have to fill in the whole form. If you just fill in the required lines you get the null.

Didn’t even check that, TBH. Really atrocious…

Oh well, was worth a shot.

DANG!! ya made me look. It accepted my entry. THEN I had to go to my registered email. When I got there, there was the usual Ebay Deals email. Unfortunately, I found something they claimed was “on sale” and it was something that I was willing to try.

Nice little backdoor, thank you. My account was targeted by my wifes was not

Just an FYI, this page shouldn’t be publically accessable. Some dev at eBay forgot to validate user input against a session ID, as the root page does deny you if you attempt to authenticate your credentials.

On the plus side, I got $10 to burn. I’ve been eying one of those Korean 32″ 4K VA/IPS panels…

Yeah, it’s not too hard to get more than 2 codes if you know what you’re doing..

Not if you are not eligible. Right?

Incorrect–it is required to be publically accessible.

Of course the rules claim that in order to use this “Alternative Method of Participation” (i.e. this link), you’re supposed to actually follow the link to the official rules on the prize ball website in order to get to the form, but the end result is all the same 😉
