YouTube TV has officially launched and they are waiving the $35 monthly fee for the first month. They will also give you a free Google Chromecast after you pay your second month. The following channels are included:
You can also add showtime for $11 per month and Fox Soccer Plus for $15 per month. It also comes with six accounts that you can share with friends & family (if you do share it with 6 people, this works out to be ~$5.85 per month each). They also offer unlimited cloud storage for your DVR recordings.
It’s available in the following cities currently:
- Los Angeles
- New York
- Chicago
- Philadelphia
- San Francisco
CNET has a good article comparing this with other ‘cut the cord’ TV services. My thoughts? I love my Google Chromecast, not really that interested in live TV these days so I doubt I’d sign up but could be a good money saver for some people. I’m interested to hear what other people think of the service in the comments below.
Any idea when it will be rolling out to other major cities (such as Dallas)?
Paying $35 a month to watch commercials seems like a bad deal. I’m happily paying $15 / month for youtube red. Music and videos without dang commercials is so worth it.
The way I see it, 15 dollars a month saves me 15 hours or more hearing about GEICO!
YouTube Red should only be costing you $10 a month. Typo? 🙂
It is fifteen for me since I get unlimited Google Play music with YouTube Red family plan.
9 month storage for unlimited DVR is great. But lineup has no TNT, CNN, or Comedy Channel.
MontyFC,
I have Playstation Vue. It does allow you to login to the apps and streaming services that your subscription provides. I’ve used it several times for ESPN and AMC.
Traditional cable can be used as an identity provider – you can log into ABC app to watch programs using dish login (provided you have ABC through your dish account).
Does anyone know if these cord cutters like Sling or YouTubeTV provide same access?
I’m not a big live TV person either, but I do enjoy live sports.
I recently got Sling TV for $20/mo, and it comes with a free Roku Stick. Since YouTube is $35, but you can split it between 3 people, I may change over to that when it becomes available in my city and find 2 other friends to do it on one account (I think there is a limit of 3 people streaming at any given time)
Yeah, I basically only need live sports these days.
ditto!
Not available in my area but I still want it a la carte. I only want 10 of those
