The Offer

The Fine Print

  • Valid October 10 – December 31, 2016
  • Reservations must be made online at hyatt.com, via the Hyatt mobile app or by phone
  • Offer only valid at Hyatt properties in the USA. Excludes Hyatt Residence Club, Hyatt Vacation Club, Hyatt Travel, Hyatt Vacations and Hyatt at Home
  • Offer only valid on room rate and room charges
  • Offer not valid for stays that are paid for before or after the promotion start and end dates
  • Excludes purchases of Gold Passport rewards points
  • Excludes physical gift and e-gift card purchases
  • The wording sounds to me that the $200 needs to be spent in one purchase, not cumulative

Our Verdict

A few days ago, we gave everyone a heads up that this offer was coming. At the time we weren’t sure if it would be publicly available or targeted. Unfortunately, it appears to be a targeted offer found in some Amex logins.

One interesting note is that while the fine print excludes gift cards purchases, Slickdeals indicates that these have worked in the past when purchased at the Hyatt desk. (The terms might only mean to exclude gift cards purchased online.)

Anyone had this work outside the US despite the terms?

It says for stays booked via Hyatt.com or app… I booked a reward stay in November with free nights, so there are 0 charges right now. But, say I dine at the hotel restaurants and charge $200+ in dining and charge it to the room. Do you guys think I’ll get the AMEX credit for this?

Yes. As long as the money goes direct to Hyatt, not to some third party, as a hotel charge.

1 out of 3…. will be interesting to see if anybody wants to hazard a $200 gc purchase at a Hyatt. (Can confirm that buying hyatt gc (at Hyatt Place) worked last time around — but don’t recall the find print being so specific then, seeming to exclude them.

Any data points out there of it working THIS TIME around via the gc purchase?

0/6. Does un-enrolling and re-enrolling make a difference for these targeted offer?
