Amex Offers: $100 Off $500 at Delta Airlines [Highly Targeted]

The Offer

  • Get a one-time $100 statement credit by using your enrolled card to spend a total of $500 or more on purchases made directly with Delta by 10/31/2015.

The Fine Print

  • Offer only works for purchases made directly with Delta, such as (but not limited to) (i) flight reservations made via delta.com, phone, or at ticket counters, (ii) upgrades, miles, seat selection, change fees, bag fees, (iii) Delta Sky Club™ membership or passes, (iv) pre-purchased or in-flight meal purchases, (v) in-flight alcoholic beverages, (vi) audio headsets, movies, shows and video games accessed via Delta’s seatback in-flight entertainment on Delta-operated flights, and (vii) Delta Vacation® packages (but not other all-inclusive packages).
  • The following do not count as qualifying purchases and are excluded from the offer: (i) in-flight wireless internet access, (ii) shows and movies accessed via a personal electronic device and associated services, (iii) SkyMall™ purchases, and (iv) charitable contributions.
  • When you make a qualifying purchase in a foreign currency, the applicable statement credit will be credited in your local currency using the exchange rate at the date the statement credit is applied.

Our Verdict

This is useful for Delta flyers, but it’s highly targeted and most are not seeing the offer. The terms don’t exclude purchasing a Delta gift card and hopefully that would work as well. This can be useful if you don’t have any immediate use of the offer, but you want to lock in the savings for later.

its been a while since ive looked through amex offers on the americanexpress website. I noticed now you have to scroll through a carousel to see all available offers (4 at a time). do you know if theres some easy way to do a text search through them all (before you just had to expand all offers and do a text search on the page)?

I got a “spend $200 get $50” for RocketMiles on my BRG, HHonors AU, HHonors, and SPG cards. All of my cards.

Yup, we’ve posted about this deal before. It’s also available via twitter.

I really want to know how they choose to target people? Is there are formula or is it well and truly random? I am almost never targeted for any special Amex deals. Same thing with Barclay spending offers. It kinda drives me crazy.

Yeah who knows. I am never targeted either for these really lucrative ones. I would love to be a fly on the wall revealing how this whole process works. It’s all spending patterns I think. But I have many other burning questions too like, “What is the incentive to put out these offers?” “Who ultimately pays for them?” “What options/parameters are set on the deals and by who?”. Given how locally targeted smallish businesses seem to be in on them, you’d think we’d have a glimpse by now of what the basics are when they sign-up.

Looks like a great offer, unfortunately not on any of my 9 cards. 🙁
