Our Verdict

Standard bonus is 20,000 points so this is an extra 10,000. Previously this was targeted, but we now have a public link for this offer. The good thing about Bank of America is the fact that merge multiple inquiries made on the same day into a single hard pull. Other cards/offers you might want to consider:

Before applying I’d recommend reading these things you should know about Bank of America credit cards.

Bleh, got denied online and denied again at reconsideration. They said my AAoA was too low and I had too many inquiries on my Experian.

I asked them how many inquiries they had on me, and they said 1 (which makes no sense since Discover says I have 10). Regarding AAoA, they said I had 6 cards younger than 12 mo but wouldn’t tell me how old my cards should be. (I have 16 cards on EX.)

Wasted hard pull 🙁

Just got off the phone with BoA, they put a request through for an additional 10,000 points on my card (opened the card in October and received the 20,000 points on Monday, November 7th). Gave me a confirmation number and everything! They said to call back in a week or two if the points don’t show up in my Amtrak account. Sounds like it should go through with no issues, will report back!

Hi FH,
I also just got off the phone with BoA. They told me that Amtrak is responsible for depositing the points, not BoA. So they weren’t able to increase the bonus points by 10,000 directly. The representative did submit a form for me to look into it further without promising anything. Could you kindly share your experience if you get the points back?
Thanks!

Are there any DPs as to whether you can get this 30,000 point bonus if you previously had the same Amtrak card with a 20,000 point bonus that has since been closed? I ask due to the language: “Limit 1 bonus points offer per new account. This one-time promotion is limited to new customers opening an account in response to this offer.”

Jason–I applied for the Alaska Airlines card when it was 25,000 miles. They increased it to 30,000 one week later. BoA refused to match it.

Had applied for and been approved for the 20K Amtrak little more than two months ago. Called this morning to ask if BOA could match the bonus. Was told it couldn’t, and that I’d have to apply for the new promotional offer to receive it.

Not really familiar with the Amtrak program. Can the points be transferred to other travel program?

NOT easily….. miserably so in fact, since the program changes last year. the one major sweet spot in theory is from Amtrak to Choice, at 1 to 3 ratio…. (which Drew at TIF and others much wrote about last year….) But the problem is to get any decent transfers from Amtrak, you have to have “status” — and to get that, you essentially have to be an Amtrak commuter, or be willing and able to spend a TON ($20,000 plus do $500 in direct travel spend) on the Amtrak/BA card…. (and for that, BA will likely flag you and hassle you over and over again….. e.g., about “unusual purchases….”)

been there, done…. fail.

Anybody want to tell us how “easy” it really is to transfer to Choice? (without having to do 20k in ms?)

Is this offer available on the business version of the card? (I want the card, but not if it will keep me over Chase’s 5/24 limit.)

#9 on the things you should know about Bank of America credit cards link at the bottom of the post states, “If Bank of America increases the sign up bonus on a card you recently applied for, they’ll probably match it. No matter the card issuer, it’s always worth asking for a bonus match but Bank of America has a history of matching them.”
