Buy $300 or More in *Visa* Gift Cards at Staples & Receive a $20 Visa Prepaid Card; Stack with Amex Offer

 The Offer

Purchase at least $300 in Visa giftcards from Staples and receive a $20 VisaPrepaid Card when you complete the Staples Easy Rebate.

This is similar to last weeks promo, except that this week you need to buy Visa giftcards, not Mastercard gift cards. And this week the rebate comes in the form of a Visa Prepaid card, not a Staples gift card.

The Fine Print

  • Limit of one per household
  • Valid only in Staples stores, not purchases made on staples.com
  • Valid from October 19th till the 25th

Stacking the Deal

It’s great that they’re giving $20 Visa prepaids as the rebate instead of last week’s Staples gift card offer. And the awesomeness is the the double-dip opportunity of these offers, since there’s an Amex offer going on which gives you back $20 for $100 of spend at Staples in-store, more details in this post.

All three of these recent deals (this week and last week’s $300 deal, and the Amex offer) are only for in-store purchases. I’d suspect that Staples is trying to beef up their in-store revenue numbers before some upcoming deadline. In any case, we’re glad to benefit from these offers!

I’ve successfully split a gift card charge at Staples between three credit cards. There may be some mean cashiers who won’t do it, but if they let you split the charge, then you can purchase a $200 Visa gift card and a $100 Visa gift card, and split the charge between three Amex cards. The cost will be $12.90 for the activation fees ($6.95 & $5.95).

You’ll get:

  • $60 from the Amex offer (3 x $20 = $60)
  • $20 from the rebate
  • 313 Amex points

Total profit: $67.10, plus 313 points.

Our Verdict

I wish I’d gotten the Amex offer on my Amex cards, since that’s the most profitable factor here, but sadly I missed it. The Amex offer can still be used by those who signed up in those few hours it was available for signup.

If I’m passing by Staples I’ll take advantage of this deal using a different credit card, since I’ll still have a profit of $7.10, plus points. The Staples Easy Rebates are real easy, as they’re name suggests. And this time they’re offering a $20 Visa prepaid card instead of a Staples gift card, which makes it easier to cash out on.

I’d never split a transaction like this across two cards, so I didn’t realize until I got home that she did it as two transactions. Two $100 cards on 1 card and one $100 on the Amex with the offer on separate receipts. Is there any way to rectify?

I went to a Staples store today to make two purchases: (1) shop for my office and (2) get this gift card. Both using my new Chase Ink Plus. The first transaction went with no problem, but the second one can not be processed. I asked why, but the cashier said that no further information was shown on his end. Any ideas?

The second transaction was likely much bigger. Making a small transaction followed by a larger transaction is typical behavior of a fraudulent transaction (e.g thief checking to make sure the purchase goes through before making a large purchase). That’d be my guess, but I couldn’t be sure.

This makes perfect sense (my first transaction was merely $~30)! Thanks! Gotta try it again.
PS: why do I have to enter my Name and Email every time when I leave a reply 🙁

I purchased several Visa gift cards today at Staples (over $1k worth) and didn’t receive a rebate form or any mention of this rebate. Strange.

Save your receipt. As long as you purchased $300 worth of Visa Gift cards in EACH transaction you can still apply for the rebate. Click http://bit.ly/1wflVCV if that doesnt work use 14-11293 as the rebate code. If you have any other questions feel free to ask me on twitter @mileswhip
