Can I Get Both The American Express Business Gold & The Platinum Bonus?
In case you didn’t know, there are two increased sign up bonuses on American Express business cards.
- American Express Business Gold: Up To 75,000 Membership Rewards Points Annual Fee Waived
- How To Get A 100,000 Point Offer For The AmEx Platinum Business Card
A lot of people have left comments basically asking the same questions:
Is it possible to get the sign up bonus on both the American Express Business Gold & American Express Platinum Business card at the same time?
Because the American Express Business Platinum card requires you to call in for the offer we can’t view the fine print on the offer, but we can do that for the Gold bonus and also have a look at the platinum’s card regular fine print. Both of the cards have the following fine print in their terms:
Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have or have had this product within the last 12 months.
American Express considers these two cards to be different products, therefore you should be able to get the bonus on both of the card. In the past these cards have had different fine print that stated:
Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have had this product within the last 12 months or <other American Express business cards named here>.
The last part of the above fine print has now been removed, leading me to believe that you can get the bonus on both of these cards. I’ve also seen anecdotal evidence that confirms this. That being said, just because you apply for both cards does not mean you’ll be approved. Chances are you’ll need to call the American Express business card reconsideration line at least once, if not twice and will need a valid reason for having both of the cards (if I was in this position I’d state that I want the benefits the of the Platinum card and the earning bonuses on the Gold). Also remember that American Express combines credit pulls.
Just because something is possibly doesn’t necessarily mean you should do it. Obviously American Express can also change the rules at any time of their choosing. If you did sign up for both of these cards, you’d also need to complete $20,000 in spending within three months which simply isn’t feasible for most people unless they are doing manufactured spending.
Also just a friendly reminder that this site does not use credit card affiliate links. Given the nature of this post, I thought that was worth reminding readers about.
