[YMMV] How To Get A 100,000 Point Offer For The AmEx Platinum Business Card

Update 5 (12/14): Seems like this is being more freely offered again with a number of readers confirming they were able to get this deal. Of particular interest is that some readers called in, were told the offer was not available only to be called back at a later time and offered the deal (‘call back offer’). As always this is highly YMMV.

Update 4 (07/30): Some reps are stating that this offer will expire on July 31st, 2018. I suspect this isn’t the case as this method has worked since 2014 but just warning readers in case this is accurate. The deal doesn’t really get better than this so might as well get it now if you can.

Update 3 (07/26): It looks like a better number to call is  (recent DP: 1, 2, 3). Goodluck.

Update 2: Two readers have reported recent success, so this might be possible to do again. As always YMMV.

Update: It looks like this might no longer work. If you try and are successful (or unsuccessful) then please let us know in the comments section. Also don’t forget to follow us on twitter so you’re the first to hear about deals like this in the future.

This post was originally published on April 8th, 2014. We’re republishing it as a number of other bloggers have recently posted about the standard 40,000 point offer. This is because it’s near the end of the year and the airline credit posts on a calendar year, meaning if you apply now it’s possible to get it once this year and then again starting in January.

Usually the sign up bonus for the American Express Business Platinum Card is only 40,000 membership rewards points. Some people have managed to get 100,000 points, here’s how they were able to do so:

  1. Call 1-800-971-6736 (or 1-800-669-6736 if that doesn’t work)
  2. Choose option 1, “apply for a new card”
  3. You’ll be redirected to a customer service representative.
  4. You: “Hello, I’d like to apply for the American Express platinum business card. A few months ago I received an offer but it has since expired, I’m wondering if it’s possible to still get this bonus” Them: “Do you remember what your RSVP code is?” You: “No, but I do remember the offer was for 100,000 membership rewards” Them: “Ok, I’m able to extend this offer to you as a one time courtesy. You will earn 100,000 membership rewards points when you spend $10,000 within three months”

You should be able to do this even if you haven’t received this offer before, but some reps might not extend the courtesy to you. If this happens, call back and try again another time and hope you get a different representative.

Our Verdict

I value membership rewards points at a minimum of 1¢ per point, so this offer has a value of at least $1,000. Although it does come with an annual fee of $450, it’s still a profit of at least $550 plus you get all of the rewards that come with a premium card like this.

I was originally going to wait a few more days before doing an AoR, but I think I’ll be applying for this deal today because I can’t imagine it sticking around for long. I wouldn’t recommend this card unless you have a high monthly spend, manufactured spending techniques come and go and it isn’t worth the risk especially with the $450 annual fee.

[Update: Just called and I was offered this deal as a courtesy]

We’ve added this to our master list of business credit card sign up bonuses.

Hey, good idea. I might try this! I don’t mind the annual fee on a card with a 100K bonus, although I’m not sure where AMEX rewards points could fit into my strategy right now. I’ll have to think about that! =)

Hi, I tried everything with the customer service reps. They insisted that no rsvp code meant no 100k offer. They said that they wanted to give it to me, but just couldn’t and were unable to make exceptions. I tried twice tonight, and it didn’t work either time for the business platinum.

Just be sure to do this before you sign up. I had a 100,000 mailing (U.S. mail) and for months a 50,000 point sign up bonus appeared on my American Express account page after I signed in. Unfortunately, when I signed up I had a few questions and decided to use the chat feature to ask the questions, and the helpful AMEX person signed me up for Platinum after being able to answer them. Since that chat (starting the next day, and continuing since then with over a dozen attempts) I have been unable to get anyone at American Express to even acknowledge the 50,000 signup bonus on my screen much less the 100,000 point mailing. Apparently American Express is very accommodating during the signup process but no so much in helping to resolve after the fact.

Of course it’s my own fault, I should have insisted on the points during the initial chat process however after answering the other questions (having to do with impact on other AMEX accounts for myself and my wife) I forgot to do so. That 10 second slip up cost me 100,000 or about $1,000 depending on how you look at it. While I understand their hesitation to offer the signup bonus now that they “have me” I’m disappointed and expected more from a Platinum service.

I’ll see what I benefits I can get out of American Express over the next year, but I’m leaning towards dumping it. In contrast to American Express, I have had excellent customer service from Chase and Discover so I may just go back to those.

Dude,

If you are going to quote almost verbatim the steps, at least have the common courtesy of doing a HT to the original post, or at least the thread you nicked this from. This is why people have such a low opinion of bloggers

Thanks for posting this. Just got this offer by calling in. BTW, is there a good post you can point to that describes all the benefits of this card and all the different ways to use it?

Hi, I downgraded my amex business platinum to green on December 16 of last year. Can I apply for the 100k business platinum after 12/16 of this year since it will be 12 months since I had the card or will I be ineligible? Thanks!

@ William : I live in apartment area and I found a mail from Amex last month that was thrown by someone who live in another building in my apartment complex. So I picked it up and then I opened it, it was an offer for Amex Platinum Business, 100k points after $10k spending within 3 months and contain 14 digits RSVP code. It says apply before Nov 30, 2014. I saved the letter until now just in case.
My question is, can we apply using the RSVP code on the letter that was addressed to someone else? I am afraid if I call and tell them the RSVP code then the data is automatically populated into the application system and the agent will see that it was intended for someone else’s, not mine…..
If we can use it, it would be great and I wouldn’t mind to share the invitation/RSVP code with you all.
