Our Verdict

You can transfer points into the Flying Blue program from:

  • Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • American Express Membership Rewards
  • SPG Points
  • Citi ThankYou Points
  • Diners Club

Taxes/fees & fuel surcharges aren’t too bad with an economy ticket (sub $100) but quickly get more expensive with a business class fare.

Booked business class to MUC and back from DUB both on DL metal and taxes were only about $80 total. That’s less than I paid flying economy on AF/KL.

Flying Blue is very good on Delta if you can get it because there are no fuel surcharges. On KLM, Air France, and Alitalia there tend to be hefty fuel charges. The problem is that promo fares on Delta are very rare.

Any idea what the history of this promo has been? Do they always offer it in Feb? I’m planning to book flights to Europe next year (Summer 2018) and I’ll hold off until February if it’s a usual thing.

I flew SFO-CDG in November for 18,750 miles last year. This was my first award flight. Transferred points from my CSR.
I think it’s not that rare, but not going to happen in the high season.
There were no promo awards for those routes in December, for example.

Is this really for anywhere in the US to anywhere in Europe? Awards out of MSP are pulling up at normal price.

No, it is only for the cities listed on the website, which MSP is not one of them. SFO, BOS and DTW seem to be only US cities, and YUL and YYZ in Canada. And CUN – I guess Flying Blue puts Mexico in the same region as the US and Canada.
