Giant Food: $10 Off Grocery Purchase When You Purchase $100 In Mastercard Giftcards

The Offer

  • Giant Food (and I assume Stop & Shop and Martin’s) is offering $10 off your grocery purchase when you buy $100 or more in Mastercard gift cards. Unfortunately you have to use your loyalty card so can only do it once

Our Verdict

Nowhere near as good as the repeatable deal they offered before, but at least it’s something. Make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases.

Anyone tried this with the $5 off $40 or $10 off $30 eQ and only $10 worth of groceries? Works at other chains, but I’ve never tried at Giant.

I don’t know if this is in any way reproducible, but I just had the following experience with this discount:

1. Had loaded digital coupon for $10 off groceries with $100 MC GC purchase at giantfoodstores.com.
2. Saw coupons.com app now was able to link to Giant and load coupons right to Giant bonus card so linked accounts.
3. Coupons.com had the $10 off groceries with $100 MC GC purchase available as well. Added that and had two $10 off digital coupons showing in Giant app (with different expiration dates – 1 was May 20 and 1 was May 27).
4. Went to Giant and picked up $500 MC but then put it back down when it didn’t mention on packaging if it was pin enabled or not.
5. Checked out without gift card but got a $10 personal discount off my order and coupons.com app is now only showing one $10 off digital coupon loaded to my account. Cashier had no idea where discount was coming from either.

Are the variable load MC gift cards pin enabled?

Reminder: this will be subject to the US Bank hacks. IMO: Not worth it.

easy – loaded my card before going to the store, bought a $500 MCGC with my Freedom card, immediately deducted $10 from the amount of the groceries I bought along with the card. – 5X = 2,500 UR points if I am correct.

Loading the card means this is a one time offer per this week, right?

DP – You need to have this deal coupon pre-loaded to your Giant DC, MD, and VA card account. Just log in and add if you have it. Otherwise, as mentioned, you are out of luck. And yes, they do accept CC using chip. You may also find additional $ off coupons in your account, just look for it. 🙂

Should work nicely with the Chase Freedom 5x this quarter. Between stocking up on groceries at 5x and those two deals that’ll be ~1000 points + $15 in one stop I was already making next week. Thanks Doc!

Say William, thanks for the alert on this, but serious (friendly) question: What exactly is your source for this? I checked my local VA Martin’s ad — as well as several locations for my (VA) Giant Food ad, but am not seeing this promo.. (checked every page closely — esp. p. 6 of the ads) I’m on mailing list for both, but not mentioned in any recent ads.

I googled for it too, and apart from seeing a half dozen other web sites shamelessly (and without any independent checking on their own) repeating your post, I’m still left wondering how you knew about this deal.

Not that I doubt you 🙂 — yet would appreciate a little more detail on how we’re supposed to know/load/redeem, etc. I see you are posting terms for the deal — but where did you find them?

ps: as a data point, the last versions of the deal for the visa gift cards at Martin’s (at least here in VA) were NOT (repeat NOT) repeatable. (It was once per week, per customer/account. I tried it.)

Ah, think I figured this out via the relevant flyertalk thread. There, I learned that lo and behold this promo is an on-line coupon that you can load to your account. (but it’s not automatic, nor is it mentioned in the normal weekly ads) Ok, got it (at least via Martin’s) — and I see I have some time to test/use it. thanks again for the alert.

you have to be crazy to get a MO with MCGC at same store selling you the GC. Folks like you ruin all the good deals. Glad I don’t have Giants near me, just S&S. And I get MO in a different place, don’t want to ruin the 10.00 free groceries. bet you don’t even use a 5 or 6% CC either!!

Any feedback on if the ‘$5 off Your Next Purchase of $15 or More’ will apply to purchase of VISA giftcard?

Well, if you are a regular Giant shopper, you probably got a different offer than $5/$15. I regularly get $10 off $50, but this week got $20 off $160 – which ain’t likely to happen any time soon. Mine frequently specify “grocery order” – I generally can’t use them at the pharmacy. Sometimes they stack, sometimes they don’t – it’s a crapshoot.

A quick look at what I have for digital coupons right now –
$6 off grocery purchase with purchase of $30 Dunkin Donut gift card
$20 off your next $160 purchase
$10 off grocery purchase with purchase of $100 or more of Mastercard Gift Cards

I suspect that if I bought a $100 Mastercard card, a $30 Dunkin card and $46 of groceries after all other coupons it would trigger the $20 off, but I wouldn’t bet on it. However, if I bought a $200 Mastercard, I would bet good money that the $20 wouldn’t trigger.

The Giant accepts competitor coupons within certain limits. I’ve been using a $10 off $50 from Harris Teeter, since they opened right across the street. Also, while the Giant app is screwy and continues to display coupons that you have already used, the Coupons.Com app correctly shows the coupons that are current on the card.

Thanks for the info! I never thought to check on the couponsdotcom app. Will check it out and see what I really have.

How to I redeem this offer? Do I need to activate the offer online first?

Yes, you need to log into giant.com and add the coupon first.
