Our Verdict
Usually we see more properties increasing in value than decreasing, but 26 of the properties decreasing in value are in Turkey and 4 are in Miami (Zika virus and these are still only moving from category 9 to category 8). Biggest changes are in Turkey with two category five properties decreasing to category one (one night going from 30,000-40,000 to only 5,000 points). Majority of the hotels increasing in price are found in the United States with 15 out of 21 properties. All of the properties increasing in value are just being increased by a single category.

Also it’s worth noting that Hilton has flexible award chart from category four onwards, where they are allowed to charge a range of 10,000 points, The award chart can be viewed below:
HOTEL CATEGORY | HHONORS POINTS REQUIRED FOR ONE FREE NIGHT |
1 | 5,000 Points |
2 | 10,000 Points |
3 | 20,000 Points |
4 | 20,000 to 30,000 Points |
5 | 30,000 to 40,000 Points |
6 | 30,000 to 50,000 Points |
7 | 30,000 to 60,000 Points |
8 | 40,000 to 70,000 Points |
9 | 50,000 to 80,000 Points |
10 | 70,000 to 95,000 Points |
You may want to book properties that are going up in price now, or wait to book properties that are decreasing in price. Remember the new prices will be reflected on October 12th, 2016.
I always laugh when Hilton decreases hotel categories. A lot of the Hilton here in Hawaii are notorious at increasing the required number of HHonors points beyond the points range for their hotel category – sometimes requiring well over 300,000 points for a night.
so sad to see beijing double tree to become category 3(20k points) instead of 2 (10k points). 10k one free night was too good vs 20k one night mediocre
Yeah pretty big change there!
