Hyatt Testing ‘Pay My Way’ Feature (Booking Cash & Award Stays In Same Booking)

Update 4/3/21: Now been expanded to all members. Hat tip to MtM

Hyatt is running a pilot program for a new payment feature called ‘Pay My Way’. Currently it’s available to a small number of Hyatt members, but the plan is for it to be available for everybody by the end of the month. Pay My Way let’s users book a stay that can be a combination of cash, cash & points or points. For example if you have a three night stay then two nights can be award nights and the third night can be a cash stay. Unfortunately suite upgrades do not work when using this feature.

I love this, it’s annoying when you’re doing half award/half cash stay and then for whatever reason you end up having to change rooms mid stay because of a miscommunication.

It’s not as helpful as it seems since no advanced rate or promo rates can be used

There is a hyatt that I want to stay at but is not accepting a points reservation for 1 night…but oddly is accepting points if I book two nights??? To either side of my original one night date. Any work arounds to this? Clearly there is availability but I don’t know how to book just the one night. Any suggestions?

Can try calling in and see if they can book it. Or book two nights and call and cancel the unwanted. Sometimes you can get around the special event minimum stay requirements this way. Sometimes.

Not being able to add suite upgrades Ruins the whole thing. I rather book everything separately and call concierge to combine the nights into one reservation and add suite upgrade to the whole stay.

On the other side, booking independent reservations can have independent ‘Cancel by’ dates. If all nights are in one reservation, the ‘Cancel by’ date is based on date of the first night of your ENTIRE reservation. If room types in multiple adjacent reservations are the same, most hotels dont have an issue with linking the reservations together at check-in without you having to move rooms in between.

This new feature does not prevent you from booking those nights separately.

I was worried this was going to be more of a ‘Pay with points,’ or ‘points plus cash’ option that would put a value on their points. Whew.

Agree! It’s definitely happened before where to get these all on the same reservation I’ve either had to do 2 separate reservations or call in to get them under one.
