Home Depot AmEx Offer: Spend $75 Receive $15 With #AmexHomeDepot

Update: Third party gift cards are triggering this offer.

The Offer

Direct Link To Offer

  • Receive a statement credit of $15 when you spend $75 or more with an American Express credit card that is enrolled in this AmEx Sync offer. You can use #AmexHomeDepot to register your cards via Twitter.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until June 15th, 2015 or until it reaches it’s quota
  • All gift card purchases made online, gift cards sold by third parties and corporate gift cards are excluded
  • HD Direct, Home Decorators Collection, Home Depot Foundation, Home Depot Fuel, Home Depot Car Wash, Home Depot at-home services, Home Depot Carpet Clean, Your Other Warehouse, RedBeacon brand, and third party installation services purchased in home are excluded

Our Verdict

This works out to be a discount of 20%, but obviously you could receive further discounts by using coupon codes or a shopping portal. The other option is to purchase gift cards, gift card purchases are only excluded online so you could go in store and purchase home depot cards at a discount and resell for 3% profit margin + credit card rewards points.

In the past it was possible to purchase 3rd party gift cards in store, but they’ve now been excluded in the fine print. The big question is whether this is actually enforced or not. This Frequent Miler post shows what 3rd party gift cards Home Depot stocks and whether a credit card can be used to purchase them or not.

Do others interpret the terms as being a cumulative $75 spend rather than just a single transaction? I accidentally did $50 charges today at Home Depot after a smart and final run which apparently confused me. The wording makes me think I can go back and spend another $25 on each of those cards and qualify for the offer.

Well in this case I just got lucky as my shiny new OBC (wife’s AU) card was in the mail yesterday and I added the offer right after activating it 😉

I’m not entirely certain that 3rd party gift cards are excluded. The way I interpret “gift cards sold by third parties” means somebody other than Home Depot selling the gift card (ie, gift card orders online are often processed by third parties).

I would argue that when you step into a physical Home Depot and buy a third party merchant gift card, you are not buying a gift card from a third party – you are buying a gift card that is issued by a third party and sold by the first party (Home Depot).

But I’m sure some people out there will test this for us.

Even if 3rd party GC go through, you’re having to spend $75 for $15. Still 20% like Amex is known for, but a little rich for my blood, but worthwhile if you were going to spend that much at those merchants anyway.

Gift card exclusion always makes me wonder what if I buy a $1 pen with a $100 gift card and check out at the same time… is the system going to tell the difference…

Correct; all AMEX cards to include FIA are eligible. BUT Twitter has email notification issues; sometimes you will be enrolled but Twitter may not send the tweet / and AMEX is slack on some email sends as well. Log into the Twitter account and check your notifications; that will show if your are enrolled for this offer.

BTW, IMO, the Sync Assist tool (http://wandr.me/SyncAssist/) is FAR superior to Tweet deck!
For $15 it auto-enrolls ALL your AMEX accts EVERY offer ALL year. Unbeatable!

So does offersbot. Problem is who wants EVERY Amex offer synced. It becomes a bit of a mess. Best to just check offersbot on Twitter and you won’t miss any. Just don’t sign up for the service,

They were shut down from Twitter so there’s no point in signing up now. I was using them until that point.

Used Tweetdeck and got the enrollment confirmations for all cards except for my FIA Amex. Anybody having the same issue? Usually when it’s available via Twitter all enrolled Amex cards would work. Or am I wrong here?

Do you mean confirmation by email or Twitter? I used Tweetdeck to enroll my FIA Amex and I got confirmation via Twitter.

To be honest, I have no idea what’s going on here right now. All of a sudden Tweetdeck shows a total of 8 confirmations (4x HD, 4x WFM) so I suppose I’m all set. The only thing missing seems to be the email confirmation for the BCP.
