Incorrect Information About Existing Wyndham Cardholders Being Upgraded To 15k Point Anniversary Bonus + What To Do

When Wyndham launched their new rewards program (all hotels being bookable for 15,000 points), they also launched a promotion for their co-branded credit card from Barclaycard (45,000 points + 15,000 points as an anniversary bonus), calling it the richest promotion in their history.

I asked their media team what would happen to existing cardholder with the 5,500 point anniversary bonus attached to their account and was told the following “Existing annual fee cardholders who are currently earning 5,500 anniversary bonus points will be upgraded to 15,000 anniversary points.”

Unfortunately it turns out that this information given was actually incorrect (even though I confirmed this multiple times). A reader told me they recently received only 5,500 points and not the 15,000 points as promised, I contacted Wyndham and was given the following response:

I’m terribly sorry but after looking into this, it seems there was some misinformation given out around existing card holders being upgraded to the 15k point anniversary bonus when in fact they are not. Obviously this isn’t how we like to operate and I’m sensitive that this could be an issue for you and your readers. For anyone with concerns, we’re asking that they please reach out to Noah Brodsky (our program head) at [email protected] and we’ll do everything we can to help make things right.

Making things right would be giving the 15,000 anniversary points as promised. It’s terribly disappointing that this has happened and I’d like to apologize for passing on the incorrect information given to me. If you were an existing cardholder when these changes took place, I’d strongly recommend contacting Noah to voice your displeasure and to ensure that you’re probably compensated.

Please make sure you let others know what the results of contacting Noah were in the comments, so others have some idea of what to expect.

Great effort William, and understand your concern re. your own credibility. Nice to see Barclays/Wyndham appear willing to “make things right” when asked. Make it so.

Your post reminds me to check back on the terms of my original promo. (esp. re. the bonus at one year. I signed up last summer)

ps, saw something recently about a pending Wyndham Rewards promo change for the new year… (vague as I recall)

Current on going offer is 45k+6k/yr offer. So it might make sense to me that they are not upgrading the old users, at least not to the full 15k/yr. And 15k/yr is just a temporary boosted offer.
