New American Express Referrals & Increased Signup Bonuses

American Express has started a new referral campaign, and there are a number of higher signup offers that you can generate by referrals at this very moment. If you see any missing offers, please drop them in the comments and I will update this post. Note that some cards do not seem to be eligible for this campaign—for example, I am unable to create a referral link for my personal Platinum, even by inputting my card information.

Article updated on February 3. I believe it is now a complete listing.

The Offers

Direct link to generate referralsAnother direct link to generate referrals (there are a number of them). Note that these links are different than the top Google result for “American Express refer a friend” — which will not generate any of these increased referral offers.

The Unexpected

  • Blue Cash Everyday: $100 back as a statement after they make $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months, AND earn 10% back at U.S. Restaurants for the first 6 months, up to $200 back in statement credits. Expires 05/03/2017. Referrer earns $100 (up to $550 per calendar year).
  • Blue Cash Preferred: $150 back as a statement after they make $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months, AND earn 10% back at U.S. Restaurants for the first 6 months, up to $200 back in statement credits. Expires 05/03/2017. Referrer earns $100 (up to $550 per calendar year).
  • EveryDay: 15,000 Membership Rewards points after they make $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. Expires 07/26/2017. Referrer earns 7,500 Membership Rewards points (up to 55,000 per calendar year).
  • EveryDay Preferred: 20,000 Membership Rewards points after they make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. Expires 07/26/2017. Referrer earns 7,500 Membership Rewards points (up to 55,000 per calendar year).
  • Gold Delta SkyMiles & Business: 40,000 SkyMiles after they make $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months and a $50 statement credit after they make a Delta purchase within the first 3 months. Expires 03/29/2017. Referrer earns 5,000 SkyMiles (up to 55,000 per calendar year).
  • Hilton HHonors: 75,000 Hilton HHonors points after they make $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. Expires 07/26/2017. Referrer earns 15,000 Hilton HHonors points (up to 80,000 per calendar year). [unexpected because it extends the expiration from 02/27/2017]
  • Hilton HHonors Surpass: 100,000 Hilton HHonors points after they make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. Expires 07/26/2017. Referrer earns 20,000 Hilton HHonors points (up to 80,000 per calendar year). [unexpected because it extends the expiration from 02/27/2017]
  • Platinum Delta SkyMiles & Business: 50,000 SkyMiles after they make $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months and a $100 statement credit after they make a Delta purchase within the first 3 months. Expires 03/29/2017. Referrer earns 5,000 SkyMiles (up to 55,000 per calendar year).
  • Premier Rewards Gold: 30,000 Membership Rewards points after they make $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. Expires 07/26/2017. Referrer earns 10,000 Membership Rewards points (up to 55,000 per calendar year).

The Expected

  • Enhanced Business Platinum: Up to 75,000 Membership Rewards points. They can earn 50,000 Membership Rewards points after they spend $10,000 and an extra 25,000 points after they spend an additional $10,000 all on qualifying purchases on the Business Platinum Card within the first 3 months. Expires 07/25/2018. Referrer earns 15,000 Membership Rewards points (up to 55,000 per calendar year).
  • Starwood Preferred Guest: 25,000 SPG points after they make $3,000 (?) in purchases within the first 3 months. Expires 07/27/2017 (?). Referrer earns 5,000 SPG points (up to 55,000 per calendar year).
  • Starwood Preferred Guest Business: 25,000 SPG points after they make $5,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. Expires 07/27/2017. Referrer earns 5,000 SPG points (up to 55,000 per calendar year).

I Don’t See My Personal Platinum / Another Card

If you don’t see your card as available for referral when you log in with your account & instead try to log in with your card information, American Express will pop up a dialog box with a link to their FAQ about what cards are eligible. Slightly condensed, the page states:

What Card Members are eligible for the Refer a Friend program?

At this time, the referral program is only available for Basic Consumer Card Members with the following Cards:

  • Premier Rewards Gold
  • Blue Cash Everyday & Preferred
  • Starwood Preferred Guest & Starwood Preferred Guest Business
  • Gold Delta SkyMiles & Gold Delta SkyMiles Business
  • Platinum Delta SkyMiles & Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business
  • Hilton HHonors & Hilton HHonors Surpass
  • EveryDay & EveryDay Preferred
  • Business Gold Rewards & Plum

Notably absent is the Enhanced Business Platinum, for which you can definitely generate a referral–it’s possible that that’s the sole exception, but there could be others.

Where Can I Post My Referrals?

Please don’t post your referrals here, we’ve created a dedicated thread for that purpose. Follow the instructions and post there.

Might bite on the BCP one if I can’t get a $250 after $1k spend on it. With Sallie Mae getting axed at the end of the month BCP is where I shall turn. I tried incognito which didn’t make a difference and checking my personal offers only had an offer for the BCE at $250. Planned on waiting until I needed it so I didn’t app early in January when it was pretty easy to find…

  2. Elias says:

I need a referal link for the surpass 100k offer please. Anybody willing to receive 20k hilton points? 🙂

  3. Logan says:

Most of these offers are pretty awful. Never apply for an AMEX card unless its the highest offer ever unless of course you dont care about high rewards or can’t meet high minimum spends

    • AndyK says:

Ya exactly, I have never had an AmEx card and am waiting out for $200 bonus with $500 in spending. If it never comes oh well, so be it

  4. Kyle S says:

I’m only able to generate a link for the Delta Gold Biz that is 30,000 after $1k + $50 SC. Looking through the Reddit referral link for the card shows much of the same. Might have adjusted it?

    • Robert says:

The Hilton cards and the Blue Cash cards are essentially the best ever offers (other than that one day when Hilton Surpass was 125k and Hilton was 100k, but that seems like a mistake offer in retrospect). The others are not worthwhile.

  5. Robert says:

Also available that wasn’t mentioned in the post:

Everyday Preferred – 20k for spending $3k in 3 months. Referrer gets 7.5k

  6. dan says:

is the amex blue biz cc still available with 10k MR pts today?

  7. Chuck says:

I’ve created a dedicated referral thread for new Amex referrals.

I’ve also removed a couple referrals from this post, sorry! Please follow the instructions and repost your referrals there.

  8. MJC says:

Can 2 SPG be linked to the same SPG Rewards number? I have the Personal SPG and it is linked to my SPG #, can I refer my wife and have it also be linked my Rewards #?

    • sirtheta says:

Unfortunately, this won’t work — for two reasons. (1) In all cases that I’m aware of, the name on the credit card and the name on the loyalty account must match. (2) Doing this would be a violation of the SPG Program’s Terms and Conditions, specifically term 1.4: Individual Memberships. All SPG Member accounts are individual accounts and no joint accounts are permitted. SPG Program benefits are nontransferable unless expressly stated otherwise.

  9. Red says:

I regenerated all of my referral links and for some reason I’m not getting the new offers. ED only 10k, Delta Gold Business only 30k, etc.

  10. physixfan says:

I think there’s also a Platinum Delta 50k bonus with $1000 spending requirement.

  11. John K says:

My spouse received an offer for Amex Premier Gold in the mail. I can’t see anywhere on the terms where it says the offer isn’t available if you’ve ever had this card before. I remember applying for an Amex card online and it is big and bold where it says you can’t earn the bonus again. Am I missing something?
