New Citi Rule Now Grouping CitiBusiness TYP Card With Personal Cards

In case you didn’t already know, Citi has a new rule (according to their media department this doesn’t go into effect until August 28th, but as always YMMV). Basically if you’ve opened or closed a card within the same brand or family (e.g American Airlines, ThankYou points, Expedia, Hilton etc) within the past 24 months you’re not eligible for the sign up bonus on any other cards within that same brand or family.

When we first saw this rule, it stated the following:

Bonus ThankYou points are not available if you have had ThankYou Preferred, ThankYou Premier or Citi Prestige cards opened or closed in the past 24 months.

You’ll still see that language on this Citi Prestige link. But if we look at this link, we will see the following:

Bonus ThankYou points are not available if you have had ThankYou Preferred, ThankYou Premier, Citi Prestige or Citibusiness ThankYou cards opened or closed in the past 24 months

When you click the actual apply button, it reverts to the old language that doesn’t group the CitiBusiness ThankYou card with the personal cards. I’m not really sure what’s going on here, if Citi plans to limit business cards based on personal cards or not due to the inconsistent language. I couldn’t find anything similar on the American Airlines business card (currently with a 50,000 mile sign up bonus). You can’t even apply for the CitiBusiness ThankYou card online and it only comes with a 20,000 point sign up bonus. So this isn’t a huge loss if this is the case. Citi are known for their IT stuff ups, so it’s entirely possible this is just a mistake as well.

Feel free to discuss below.

If it hasn’t been 65 days since my 2 Citi personal apps I still have to wait that 60 days for business as right?

no, you can apply. the 8/65 rule is only for personal cards.
the way I used to do with citi was I would always apply for one personal and one biz card on day 1, then apply for another personal on day 8… never had an issue.

I think FM once reported that it comes thru separately and results in 2 pulls.

I am guessing it will remain on its own, since the sign up bonus is a phone and not TYPs. But it’s not available for sign up at the moment (again).
