Yesterday I added the ability for AMP (accelerated mobile pages) to work properly on the site. AMP is an open source initiative to make mobile browsing faster. If you do a google search and our site appears in the listings you should automatically be directed to the AMP site (as well as it displaying a little icon letting you know that the site is AMP enabled).
If you’d like to view any post (pages and the home page don’t work currently, hopefully that will be added as functionality in the future) you can simply add /amp onto the end of the URL and it’ll show the AMP site. For example you can view this post on the AMP site by clicking here (https://www.doctorofcredit.com/now-support-amp-accelerated-mobile-pages-faster-mobile-site/amp). I still have plans to completely overhaul the design of the site sometime this year, but I’ve also been saying that for several years so let’s see if I get around to it or not. The AMP site seems to be generating significantly less revenue than the normal site (on a per thousand impressions basis), but as always I want to put readers first so here we are.
If you have any other suggestions on how to improve the site or want to give feedback on the AMP site then please do so in the comments below.
AMP is Google’s land grab and is user hostile.
Take a look at these articles

And please don’t ever add Disqus.
Yeah, I read them before I added it. Unfortunately I basically just have to add AMP to stay competitive in search results. I actually like AMP a lot, I just don’t like the google bar they add.
Commenting from my phone for the first time here.
Total gamechanger!
Great work doc, chick and everyone involved!
Dammit auto correct!
Apologies Chuck!
🙂
I was hoping for a deal at an Asian Massage Parlor.
so funny because i was thinking the same thing…
Why does the AMP site generate less revenue?
Probably due to the ad placements I imagine, I can’t place them exactly where I normally would.
While this is a good add to the site, I sincerely hope you can add Disqus to your site. A whole lot better and easier for users to be able to track their own comments and replies and also avoid clash of handles as well as give some credibility to frequent posters and if they chose to allow it their posts can be searched for useful responses as well.
And also the Recent Comments is very useful and hope it can be expanded to list 10 comments instead of the 5 that is currently shows.
Changed it to 10 instead of 5. I don’t like Disqus, they charge you to use the platform otherwise they show ads and they also ‘own’ the comments people write on the site. I agree the comment system isn’t perfect, but I really just hate disqus.
I hate disqus too. I’d never post here if it was used.
Thanks so much for increasing the recent comments to 10. Really appreciate that. Very helpful. and I am sure that will bring about more clicks.
I did not know Disqus charges Website owners. While I understand the frustrations with Disqus in my 2 years of commenting on other couponing boards using Disqus the experience has certainly been way better than without (pre) Disqus the quirks notwithstanding. Hopefully something like Disqus comes along that will help sites to improve the comment boards. Again this is not to say Disqus is the only way to to improve the commenting – there may be other ways out there that are even better.
No problem. Yeah I am open to other solutions in terms of commenting but I think the draw backs for disqus are too high at the moment.
AMP is awful!. It drives me crazy that google defaults to this. The AMP bar takes up a quarter of the screen, most of the content doesn’t render correctly. For this particular site it doesn’t really affect me because I’m coming direct with a bookmark, but for anybody doing a google search it could be a huge turnoff.
I hate that stupid AMP bar, I really hope they remove it. I don’t mind AMP but agree that Google’s implementation leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately it’s basically use it or get left in the dust in the search results.
I can’t say I blame you, google has a hell of a lot of power and is using it to force something unpleasant on us
The better direct comparison (unless you simply elided this detail) would be to compare revenue against mobile browser devices rather than the full site (including desktop).
Cheers to a smooth launch!
Yeah that’s what I’m comparing to. Mobile is actually pretty high revenue wise. This new AMP is basically no revenue at this stage. Like I said it’s not my primary concern, this seems better for users of the site. Just thought it was worth mentioning.
Does the amp site not support comments? It directs me back to non-AMP version. Other than that it is FASTTTT.
It doesn’t support comments, but like you said you can click that comment button to be redirected to regular site.
Holy crap its fast. Nice.
Yup, speed of site is something we are really trying to improve at the moment so fingers crossed the normal site sees some improvement soon as well.
If you care about speed, you might want to remove all the tracking.
I have to routinely close tabs with your site due to CPU usage that’s too high.
Also, was given the option to disable scripts at one point, and, boy, is your site so much faster.
AMP will get you nowhere; the only reason it’s fast is that all the crap that shouldn’t be there in the firat place, ain’t there.
Only tracking we use is google analytics (also on AMP) and maybe something from adsense (also on AMP).
Excellent, thank you!
Cheers,
PedroNY
Glad you like it!
