An e-mail has just been sent out letting people know that the SPG & Total Rewards partnership will be ending on December 31st, 2016. The e-mail reads as follows:
Dear <name>,
Since you have linked your Total Rewards® account to your SPG® account, we want you to be the first to know. The last day to earn or redeem Reward Credits® for stays at SPG hotels or Starpoints at Total Rewards destinations will be December 31, 2016.
If you have a current reservation, it will remain in place. However, no Reward Credits will be awarded for stays at SPG participating hotels and no Starpoints will be awarded for stays at Total Rewards hotels after December 31. For additional questions, please view our FAQs.

This partnership allowed SPG members to earn and redeem points at Total Rewards properties and vice versa. SPG members could also earn elite stay/night credits at Total Rewards properties and vice versa as well.
This also makes the Total Rewards card less useful as it gave you Platinum status, letting you earn 1x Total Rewards point on SPG stays in addition to what you’d normally earn in SPG points.
