The news broke last week that Target.com is no longer gives the 5% REDcard discount on third-party gift card purchases.
Target.com sells gift cards to some popular merchants, including eBay, Disney, iTunes and more. A 5% discount isn’t huge, but it was a straightforward way to get gift cards at a 5% discount, a decent deal for eBay in particular. And some people had creative ways of making this deal even better.
As of last week Sunday (4/24), the REDcard 5% discount doesn’t work on gift cards purchases at target.com. In-store it hasn’t worked for some time already.
It’s still possible to buy third-party gift cards with Target gift cards so if you have a Target gift card to use up, you can purchase eBay or any other third-party gift card from Target or target.com. Visa gift cards can not be purchased with a Target gift card.

It’s all over SlickDeals as well. The cat is out of the bag, nothing more that can be done. Seems it’s not working for some people (like me) too so you’ll get mixed responses. I don’t suspect this will last too long, but never know. I miss last year when this was running full speed without anyone having a clue. Ah, good ol’ days.

Just did an order and all is normal, so far. They have been known to cancel orders when you don’t have any skin in the game (full purchase on TGC) but I paid partially with TGC and partially off the Redcard.
Order placed 30 min ago on Target.com for third party egift card. Used Redcard for partial payment. Full purchase price discounted 5%. Order confirmed and DELIVERED. Its working again.
So if I wanted to use Target gift cards to buy a 3rd party giftcard, and pay for some of it with my TargetRED card, I’ll get the 5% off my WHOLE order even though only some went on my target card?
While I haven’t tried during the last month, I have always been able to get 5% off third-party gift cards at Target or Target.com using Redbird (prepaid REDcard).
be careful. They seem to be dropping ban-hammer if you buy “too many” ebay gift cards.
