The Offer

  • Buy two iTunes gift cards and get the second 30% off

To optimize, buy two of each of the same denomination ($100,$50,$25,$15) and you’ll get 15% off. You can also buy two $100s, two $50s, two $25s, and two $15s in the same checkout and get 15% off everything.

Use REDcard or Discover for an additional 5% discount, bringing the discount to more than 19%.

Our Verdict

I think the same deal is/will go on in stores, but obviously online is much more convenient. Can’t use a Target gift card to pay (order will be cancelled), but you can use your REDcard or Discover card for 5% off.

The portal excludes gift cards in the terms, I tried SBC for 5% in case it works anyway (nope). Not sure if Target will allow a second order or it’s limit one order per person. I’ll probably try a second order after my first comes through – cards are supposed to come within 4 hours – at worst it’ll be cancelled. There’s also 15% off iTunes gift cards on Amazon now as well.

I was able to max out a Discover card online to start off with but now all my orders are getting canceled even with other credit cards or through PayPal. The few last night I was able to get through haven’t shown up in their purported 4 hour period.

Put in about 20 2x $100+50 orders online, and a bit more than half cancelled. Eight went through Reason cited was “Payment problem,” which I suspect to be untrue.

Cashback through SBC did not work.

Deal is also in stores. Was able to buy 6x $100 for $510 in one transaction. POS declined to add any more after that. Clerk stated no multiple transactions either. Paid via Discover with Samsung Pay. Went to another store to do the same thing and POS stated “Cannot accept payment” when I tried to use same Discover card via Samsung Pay (after clerk typed last 4 of card on their POS).

I inserted physical Discover card and transaction then went right through at second store. I think Target may have a cross-store system to block transactions above the customer limit based on credit card number.

Does anyone know if buying 2 x $50 cards (for $85) will trigger the spend $50 get 20% coupon? It’s almost midnight here.

For some reason my Discover card isn’t going through on Target.com.

Having so many problems buying stuff since last night… My Chase cards were declined on Walmart.com (Chase Pay via Freedom / CSR), Lyft/Uber app (CSR), Walmart physical store (Freedom), and now this. Not sure if it’s due to the sites themselves or something weird triggering my credit cards? No fraud alerts though.

REDcard states it does not do 5% discounts on gift cards. So only Discover should get the deal.

Redcard discount does not apply to Target giftcards, but it does apply to 3rd party giftcards.

Tried two of each in a single cart and the order was cancelled about half an hour later. “There was a technical issue that prevented us from fulfilling your order.” – Nothing more specific than that.
