$20 Off $300 In Visa Gift Cards At Office Max (Limit 2 Discounts, Not Enforced)

The Offer

  • Receive $20 off instantly at the register when you purchase $300 in Visa gift cards.

visa $20 limit

The Fine Print

  • Valid until December 26th, 2015
  • Limit 2 discounts per customer ($40 off $600 is the most you can get according to the terms). This isn’t usually hardcoded. Update: This isn’t hardcoded, you might be able to purchase more than $600 in gift cards and get the $20 discount per $300 depending . Keep in mind that if you purchase $1,000 or more then you’ll be required to enter some information for their anti money laundering system.
  • Discount comes off instantly at register
  • Office Max only, offer is not showing at Office Depot reportedly

Our Verdict

The fees are $6.95 per $200 card, your best bet is to purchase three $200 gift cards, this will trigger $40 in discounts so you’ll end up paying $580.85. Basically $20 profit, plus whatever you get from the credit card rewards (make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores).

I was hoping this would come about. I still need to load $400 in my serve account and didn’t want to use a $500 VGC with $100 left over. This is perfect.

Does anyone know if this works at Office Depot as well

The AML kicked in at 1800. It was at 2k before.

Yeah, I did $1,800 and the manager had to fill out the AML form. Any idea what the consequences are for future gift card purchases?

Are the discounts ringing up more than twice if you do $1200 or $1800 at one time? Last time they did.

Calvin

What is AML? And how/why are you purchasing $1800 in VGC?

The guy behind me and I both did $1800 and each of us were asked for ID and the manager filled out our info on his screen. Im guessing that is the AML stuff. Does that mean theres a limit that we can purchase each month or something?

Do u know if this is per transaction or cumulative purchase broken down in separate transactions

A manager told me the trigger for an aml is now $1000. Used to be $2000.

I did multiple $2000+ purchases last month during the same deal, and never had to fill out any AML form.

The local OM just closed last month…Sad. Now the closest one is 50min away.

So it’s 1000 or 1800 for AML to kick in?

JohnnieD

As I posted above, a manager I trust told me the aml trigger is now $1000 not the $2000 it was previously. I was in om last week buying gift cards (for real Christmas gifts) with my total being $1200 and the aml screen popped up and had to enter ALL info from my dl. Not real happy with this……

So if we do 900 per transaction it shouldn’t be prompting for that information, right?

I was not too excited with a prospect of AML @1800 and went for lower amont. AML was triggered with $1200 purchase. 6*$200

My local store said they only have the variable load VGC in stock. Will they still trigger this deal or does it only work with the fixed amount cards?

Mike
Mike

You can prove people wrong, but the common knowledge is the deal is for fixed amount cards only. And variable loads are debit only since recently..

Jennifer
Jennifer

Tried a variable load yesterday because my OM was out of the fixed. Hard coded cash only.

Variables do work to trigger the discount, but my store only accepted cash. Not sure if their cash only policy applies only to variable

Your store has $500 VISA variable gc’s?!? I’ve only seen MasterCard at officemax. Also, where I live they seem to be hard coded not too take debit as well as credit. Ergo. You have to pay cash- eliminating the SunTrust angle.

I was surprised that my OM had variable $500 Visas’s. But same situation here…no credit or debit. Cash only.

I bought $1500 VGC for $1418 cash. Worth a trip to the bank. No AML for some reason (cash maybe?)

I bought $1200. The manager said the AML form is $1000 now and the policy started last week. I had to give my drivers license and she typed in the information. She didn’t act like it was anything serious. I didn’t ask her about the details of the AML form because I have gone in there before and I didn’t want to seem suspicious, even though I have nothing to hide. I don’t know anything about the AML form. What happens when one is filled out?

The Value Traveler (@ValueTravelerOz)

if your lucky enough to find the $200 VGC’s….

I rang up $600 worth for a toal of $580.XX. The register asked for a system authorization and I didn’t even swipe my CC yet. The cashier called the manager over and she said the policy was changed and I had to use cash only. I said I didn’t have it on me and left. I think she misunderstood the policy as it’s variable GC’s that are cash only. I can’t stand misinformed employees.
