  • Costco is offering two $50 Chef’d eGiftcards for $49.99

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 4/22/18

Our Verdict

Chef’d is a meal kit delivery service similar to Blue Apron or Sun Basket. These are quite expensive, but a 50% discount makes them much more attractive and you can usually stack other promo codes as well. For example WELCOME15 should give you $15 off your first order, CHEFDELEVATE $10 off any order. You should also be able to use the Costco Visa Checkout deal to get $50 back on $250+ in spend as well. If so you’d be spending $200 and getting $500 in Chef’d gift cards and then you could stack further savings as well. If anybody knows any other good ways of stacking savings for Chef’d, I’d love to hear them in the comments below.

Well, this certainly sucked. They’re out of business and I’m left with unused cards. First plastic merchant, now this. Come on!

If you bought from Costco, contact them. Apparently they are doing refunds.

Confirmed Costco will refund. On the phone with them now. They are refunding both of my orders (2 orders for 2 x $50 cards) and apologized for the inconvenience.

Oh no – I can’t seem to find them on Costco at all. Has this offer been permanently pulled? I didn’t stock up yet!

I went for this while the Visa checkout offer was still valid. I had to add another item as the total came to $249.95. Looking at my Visa statement now, my purchase is listed as two transactions one for $249.95 and one for $21. Am I going to get the statement credit?

Would have done this if the $50 off $250 was still around

Company is inflating revenue by overpricing meals and offering these discounts. No real business sells $100 credit for $50. Definitely will be gone soon so don’t invest too heavily into the GCs

This is a really strange and ill-informed take on the offer. Their revenue is the $50 real cash spent, not the $100 sticker price for the goods. This approach is no more inflating revenue than is any other sale or promotion by any other company.

I and others are doing exactly what they want from this promotion–trying them out.

The regular pricing on these meals is insane. $25 -$45 dollars for a meal kit for two people. Most of the meals are made of chicken, pasta, and veggies which are fairly cheap to begin with. 50% off though seems like it might be a decent deal.

Frankly, most people would be better off just getting take out from someplace reasonable. Plenty of restaurants offer deals with coupons/ cash back. Less money spent, less time involved cooking, better tasting food.

It is expensive at regular price, but they always have deals and discounts that you can stack. Yes, it’s mostly protein, vegetable, and starch (like most meals, what are you expecting?) but you also get the exact amount of spice or seasoning you need (for instance, I don’t want to buy a ton of saffron for one dish). And it’s not just about being economical either. My girlfriend and I had a lot of fun making and trying dishes that we would never have made otherwise (Moroccan pasta with chickpeas?.. No I don’t have those spices lying around). My life isn’t as hectic as others, so “less time involved cooking” doesn’t apply, since more time cooking is more time being creative and working on something fun together. All that said, I don’t continuously keep the subscription (due to price, like you said) and I enjoy the ease of eating out as well. Just want to point out that it can be fun, educational, and something new to do with your SO and/or kids.

Yeah, I agree with you. I live alone and my biggest problem is I buy too much food, a big chunk of which gets tossed. This is a perfect way to try new food every week with little effort, while still taking an active part in what I eat.

I would say it’s helped me eat out less, and more confident in my cooking.
