eTrade $1,000 Brokerage Bonus

  • 5/2 – Brokerage opened online
  • 5/12 – Called to confirm account was enrolled in promotion since I didn’t receive confirmation email; was informed account wasn’t enrolled
  • Agent submitted enrollment request and received confirmation email same day
  • Terms were for existing account / customer and slightly better than new account terms
  • 5/12 – Submitted transfer request to move ~$200K in assets over from Wells Fargo
  • 5/14 – Assets appeared at eTrade; no transfer fee charge by WF since it was a partial account transfer
  • 7/14 – $1,000 bonus posted

Will hold my assets through July of next year (given 12-month clawback) and then on to the next bonus!

PK The terms on DoC are outdated, the latest promo requires securities / funds remain in the new account for 12 months after 60-day funding period.

Thanks for this. I’ll be able to bring my securities back to E*Trade next month, and would love to receive this bigger bonus. Can you share more about who you talked or which department?

In the past I used similar offers a few times. I had a great advisor and I always confirmed with him. Some offers were valid if the transferred assets were “aggregate,” meaning I could transfer some assets from Non-IRA and some assets from IRA brokerage accounts. Am I right to say that these offers are NOT aggregate, meaning all transferred assets must come 100% either from IRA or Non-IRA accounts, but cannot split?

Can existing customers use the OFFER25 and make a new account? And if so, would it need to be a different type of acct? I currently have a brokerage acct … so could I have 2 brokerage accts? Or could the other be a savings acct? Also curious if anyone has done the: ‘withdraw funds, wait a few days, sign up for offer, deposit funds in again’ with this?

Paid out for 3rd time in ~6 months 12/28,3/27,5/27. They stiffed me on the checking bonus but they pay on the brokerage account.

Can eTrade be churned an unlimited number or times? or it’s limited to 2x per lifetime as it says above?

FWIW, a representative (while on an unrelated subject) asked if I am interested in a transfer bonus. He assured me 2x lifetime limit is no longer in force.

Last minute but I didn’t realize nobody posted the link to the current existing member promo. https://us.etrade.com/promo/40000cfc-brokerage-043025

Ends 5/15. 12 month hold.

Honestly, the customer service at Etrade is next-level bad. Hands down the worst customer service I’ve ever stumbled upon. Seriously, a complete nightmare trying to open an account online.

First, no actual confirmation, just some random reference number to hand to CS. So, I get on with CS, and they’re like, Yeah, just upload your SSN card and driver’s license. Did that. Then… radio silence for days. Called again, and they want me to reupload the docs again because apparently they did not receive them the first time. Did that and a couple of days later I got the account opened confirmation. Tried to log in. Nope. ‘Can’t verify the phone number.’ Are you kidding me?! Back to CS. This time, they wanted me to upload a letter stating the phone number I wanted for 2FA. That was my breaking point. Told them to just close the account. Like, how hard is it to onboard a new customer without it being a total circus? Beyond messed up

Just curious, how would they claw bonus back if you already withdrew the cash to bank account, and then initiated a full acat transfer out. Anyone actually tested their verbiage

They could make your account negative and put a negative mark on your Chex and/or EWS. That could cause you serious issues in trying to do other offers in the future.

Orin,

When I replied to #2055787 I didn’t realize that this was the brokerage bonus post. I assumed it was regarding the Etrade Checking offer until I saw your comment #2055801 .

I am not sure if a brokerage would have the ability to put negative marks on your Chex/EWS but they could probably cause you issues in other ways if your account goes negative.
