The Chase Freedom Flex card is no longer accepting new applications, with the apply button being removed on the Freedom page and only the activate button on the Freedom Flex page working. Additionally a reddit user called to downgrade their Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Flex wasn’t given as an option. This does happen occasionally for no reason, it’s also possible this card is getting a refresh of some type.

would be dope to see freedom flex refresh copy citi custom cash. that would be a true flexible card. but i would even pay $95 AF for freedom flex elite w/ upgraded categories.
I hope there’s no change to the 3x categories, but it’s possible, since it’s currently very confusing that the Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited both have the same identical 3x categories (dining and drug stores) plus 5x on Chase Travel, and so the only remaining difference is that Freedom Flex gets 5x on quarterly categories and 1.0x on everything else but the Freedom Unlimited just gets 1.5x on everything.
Yet Chase keeps advertising that the Freedom Unlimited gets 5x on Chase Travel plus 3x on dining and drug stores plus 1.5x on everything else. But for someone who would get both cards, with both of them having everything else the same, the 1.5x on everything else would be the only feature, and with plenty of 2x on everything cards from other banks, I don’t see the big point of the Chase Freedom Unlimited if you already have the Chase Freedom Flex.
Wish Chase will change 5% rotating categories to 5% top category like Citi customer cashback or let us choose the categories like US Cash+. The card will be used more often than only in the quarter that 5% rotating categories make financial sense to use
just got this when I tried to PC a 20 plus year old Unlimited to Flex.
Let me share, your credit card account cannot be changed to a Chase Freedom(R) Flex credit card. However, you can view our current offers and terms at creditcards.chase.com. We’re happy to help you. XXXX, when choosing a new credit card, be sure it’s a card you don’t already have. We only allow customers to have one credit card per product. Applications for a card product you already have may not be eligible for approval.
I find it hard to believe that the Freedom Flex is going away entirely. I suspect it has been temporarily shelved to keep it from cannibalizing their higher-end offerings. Right now, the focus is on the new CSR, with a mildly improved bonus on the CSP (75k instead of the usual 60k) to capture those who aren’t quite ready to pull the $795 trigger on the CSR.
In addition to the rotating categories, the Freedom Flex also offers a permanent 5x rate on Chase Travel (same as the CSP), whereas the CSR offers an 8x rate. Of course, readers of this site know that there is much more to it than that, but for the uninformed masses going by just what’s in the ad, they’re going to see it as paying $795 a year to get three more points per dollar. For these customers, the no-fee Flex passes the “good enough” test and they tune out the Sapphire cards.
Once the hype concerning the new CSR dies down, I expect the Flex to return to the menu. Indeed, in normal times the Flex (and to a lesser extent, the Unlimited) serves as a sort of gateway drug to the Sapphire program.
I saw someone post on another site that a call center agent told them there was a one-month moratorium on Flex applications. I saw another post indicating that the Flex is still available in-branch. Both point to this being a temporary measure.
(The Rise and the Unlimited get to stay because they serve a completely different type of customer. If I had to guess, the majority of people with an Unlimited as their only Chase card wouldn’t be approved for either Sapphire if they were to apply for them today.)
Let’s all hope it’s just gonna be rebranded as a chose your own category 5% card like CCC and PP debt card.
Hope so.
The FAQ page for the quarterly benefit has now moved or been removed. The link from the app (not sure about the website) goes to a page not found. Ditto with Chase.com/freedom and Chase.com/freedomflex
Apparently its still available in branch and will continue to be so, for now anyway
as long as the new one is 0ftf plz
Loved the SUB last year: 10x on $12k of groceries + 15 months 0% interest I’m still carrying on $22k from Grocery, Restaurant & quarterly bonus. Chase made it easy to xfer enough CL to keep utilization < 30%
One of those offers I knew was probably once in a lifetime
