American Express has announced a new lounge called Sidecar by Centurion Lounge. The first one will open Harry Reid International. It’s described as “intimate airport lounge” but as far as I can see the size of the lounge has not been announced. You’ll only be able to access these lounges 90 minutes before a flight departs and are designed for a quick bite to eat or drink.
Basically copying Capital One’s homework?
Year 2027: Amex announces $15 vending machine credit for Platinum card holders as an alternate to lounge access.
You know it’s funny, my first thought when I saw this was a $10 Dunkin credit at airport locations only, in lieu of the lounge. Maybe if they are feeling extra generous, we’d get credits for the coin operated massage chairs or the Chili’s to go storefront.
*$5 monthly credit
Just another way to cut benefits. Join the wait list only to be let in when your flight’s door closes.
I will not hold my breath. I know people that work in LAS airport and we are still waiting on the Chase Sapphire lounge. No word. Plans are not even in the process. Maybe this little Amex sidecar thingy will happen in like…2027. LAS needs to get their act together.
LAS may be my least favorite major domestic airport in the USA. Even the ‘bus situation’ to the rental car center is a chore. Long lines at peak hours… for a bus. Ugh. And while the Centurion there is one of the first, it’s seen better days. Glad Amex is at least trying to improve with this sidecar idea; by the look of it, reminds me of the speakeasy at JFK T4.
I have found LAS and MIA AMEX lounges have really gone downhill. The people that work there not very friendly. That applies mostly to people at the front. They are told to keep out as many people as they can.
I hope these are open to anyone with an Amex card, and not just Platinum card holders. Similar to how there was that vending machine for anyone with an Amex.
Right, free food and drink for anyone with a NAF Amex card. That sounds likely 🙂
Free lunch was a common sales tactic in the 1920s, and it does work, if you know your history.
Saloons would give out a free salty lunch, and customers would buy alcohol which would make up for the price of the cheap food. Salty food makes you feel thirsty, if you didn’t know this already.
Anyone with a NAF Amex card could come in and eat, but the food could be salty and limited, which would force them to buy drinks. The drinks could be a few cents cheaper than the rest of the airport, which would encourage people to buy drinks there. Or it could be in an area far away from other food options. It’s just an example, Amex probably can figure out a way to make it more efficient.
With such a genius idea, I am curious on what is stopping you to start this business. I mean one day you could acquire AMEX and provides the free food for everyone.
We will all cheer for you.
It’s a pretty basic idea, if you’ve ever opened a history book, or any business related book. It’s literally not that complicated.
