Our Verdict

If you earn 50k miles then you’ll get Altitude Prestige 25k status valid through 2021. This is their basic level of status and really isn’t that useful unless you’re planning to fly with Aeroplan. There aren’t any U.S. based Aeroplan credit cards, but you can transfer points from Capital One & American Express transfer to Aeroplan.

I’m a little lost on how 50k gets you status. Wouldn’t it just give you 4500 bonus AQM?

Can this be used to get status with any of the alliances? Seems like the only real use

Will star silver do anything? chance of an upgrade? I will burn thru aeroplan points way more than 50k /yr but I am generally going to spend 7500 turkish points on my domestic * flying and could spend 12.5 for J. Its just when i come back from europe where its easy to blow thru aeroplan points on LH. Sitting on a 200k balance of ac from the last amex transfer bonus.
Thanks for any input.

Star silver is useless outside of flying AC. And even then the 25k perks aren’t much. A couple of lounge passes, checked bags, priority check-in, and 20 eUpgrade credits that are hard to use (and come with big surcharges on many fares)

You meant status with Air Canada, not Aeroplan?

Yes, but Aeroplan Status is useless, whereas air Canada’s status is slightly useful. they have two separate elite statuses.

Aeroplan status earning also ended as of March 1 this year, so all that’s left is Air Canada status earning.

Transferred 120k MR points to Air Canada on 19th. Sent a message asking for exception. Got a response of rejection.

No status, live in the USA. Trying to figure out how I could make this worthwhile, but don’t think I’m going to go for this one.
