Amazon Begins Discounts For Prime Members At Whole Foods (Turkey At 20% Off)

When Amazon acquired Whole Foods they stated that they would be lowering prices at Whole Foods and would be integrating Prime into their point of sale systems to offer special savings and in store benefits. Prices were reduced on some items in store almost immediately and they have just launched the first prime discount (at least that I know of). Prime members are eligible to receive a discount on turkeys (our affiliate link).

  • $1.99/lb for Whole Turkeys (20% discount)
  • $2.99/lb for Whole Organic Turkeys (14% off)

Discount is only available to Prime Members and you must present a coupon in store to be eligible. That seems like a clunky system to me, so fingers crossed Amazon hasn’t finished integrating just yet and this is a stop gap measure. I think Target & Costco had them for $0.99/lb last year ($1.99/lb for organic at Costco), obviously that doesn’t take into account the quality of the turkey though. Personally I don’t think it’s the actual discount that that’s interesting, just that they have begun to have these types of offers. Fingers crossed we see more discounted Whole Foods gift cards on Amazon and more Amazon gift card discounts at Whole Foods.

I’m sorry to hear that. Would you mind sharing what you experience when you don’t eat animals?

Cheapest option would be to not eat animals at all – especially when one factors in the statistical differences in long term health care costs.

Chris, I get really sick if I don’t eat animals daily. No thanks.

Eating vegetables vs meat can be worst on the environment due to globally shipping them from around the world so that they can always be in season.

Sparky, I totally get your point. It is true that many fresh vegetables are shipped from far away and this does have an environmental impact. However, keep in mind that in this country, we grow the majority of our corn, soy, alfafa, etc for animal consumption. When one switches to plant-based, less crops need to be grown.

Furthermore, a person on a plant based diet receives most of his/her calories and protein from plant foods that luckily store very well, such as beans, lentils, whole grains, seeds, nuts and tubers such as sweet potatoes. None of these need to be in season!

Good point except for those that have severe food allergies and have little other choice. Love in Christ!

The coupon isn’t showing up when I sign into my prime account. Very annoying. Wish I knew why.

Although I don’t shop at Whole Foods, I want to point out that the regular whole turkey has no antibiotics added. So they charge more due to that. Some people want to avoid foods with added antibiotics, and pay a premium for it.

$1.99/lb is a discount? That’s 5x the price elsewhere. Enjoy your prime discount, suckers.

Yo, WR! Your comment says way more about YOU than it does anybody else. Happy holidays and love in Christ!

What do you think it says about me, exactly? That I don’t pay 5x for a commodity product? That I value my money enough that I don’t throw it away just to engage in virtue signalling? You are fooling yourself if you think that just because you buy it at Whole Foods that it is somehow a premium product. Only in your imagination is that $1.99 turkey the pride of a small family farm, loved and cared for like one of their children. It’s a cheap, corporate farmed non-organic turkey, just like at Safeway. So enjoy your $1.99/lb turkey, you turkey.

Happy holidays and allahu akbar

Hmm.. let’s see? Inappropriate rage response perhaps? Do you treat everybody in your life that way… or do you you just secretly save it for your family? I’d be more than happy to offer you some therapy with ME, but alas, I’m already off for the holidays. Another tip, don’t attempt to fight with your therapist, just realize that this person WILL be to able to help me. Don’t bother to respond to this comment as I have way more stuff to do than argue with a nameless faceless adversary. Once again, love in Christ.

This is true. Although we shop here some, I always say to my S/O that behind the scenes, this place is no different than any other. It’s a matter of time before it comes to light.
Never believe that they don’t cut corners as well. Even when they said that they were cutting prices from the beginning, they were raising it elsewhere to make up for the difference.
A box of Corn Flakes are like $5 for 1 box but 2/$5 elsewhere. Depends on what you’re into. The sushi here may be no different than the sushi at ShopRite or wherever, but who knows.
