Amazon has launched ‘Amazon Prime Video Cinema‘ (our affiliate link) showcasing movies that were supposed to be showing in theaters currently. Not all studios are releasing their films direct to consumer like this, but some are. Looks like the pricing is $19.99 for all the movies currently available. No rush digital credits do work on these purchases (as expected). I personally can’t see myself paying $19.99 for any of the current movies on offer, but I expect this list to expand and would have probably have paid $19.99 if the new bond was released for example.

Couldn’t agree more. As a Senior, we pay no more than $8 at a Cinema. Why would we pay more to Amazon?
Well if there are three seniors watching the movie at home this option is cheaper…
Got a $5 code to use on Google play through email. Then saw a $0.99 movie rental deal on Google Play. Then saw that a few “current” theater movies are available to rent at home. So I got The Hunt, a $20 rental for $.99(free).
FWIW Onward will be out on Disney plus in less than two weeks.

I feel that it’s priced too high especially considering the lack of overhead it takes to stream these movies from amazons point of view.
I think it’s $19.99 per movie because you have the chance to watch it with multiple people. Imagine going to the movies with 4 people. Whether you’re at a cheap $5 viewing or one of AMC’s pocket busting $15+ per person viewings, you’d break even or come out ahead.
You’ll be missing out on the Dolby Digital, big screen, nice seat, and the other bells and whistles that comes with seeing it in theaters though.
If it’s just one or two people… it’s a little on the expensive side.
All new movies are just re-hashes of older movies. There’s so much old content still out there that isn’t a ripoff

That’s the problem with pricing streaming versus theater attendance. In a theater, each person is charged separately. With streaming, they have no idea how many people are watching at one location.
For people watching alone, this is a horrible price. For people watching as a group of 4, this is a very decent price.
Amazon “In theater” movies, 19.99 rental. They want you to feel like you bought the popcorn and large soda. But they left out the popcorn butter, no lube allowed.
