This worked for me.The code gets applied instantly. Got the echo show for $35.31 plus I’ll get 5.00 for my dot (haha)
This won’t work because the 25% off applies after the trade-in appraisal is complete.
I think they give you the code right away per this clause: If you selected Instant Payment and received a promotional discount toward the purchase of a new qualifying Echo device and you cancel the trade-in, your trade-in is not received within 35 calendar days, or your trade-in is rejected, then you authorize us to charge your payment method for the amount of the promotional credit used.

They gave me $10 for the echo dot 2! I got the latest echo dot + stick 4k for $22 .. earlier today, so nice recycle
I think this is only the for the instant credit. I think the 25% discount cannot be taken away from you — even if you don’t return your echo device.
