AMC Stubs A-List: MoviePass Competitior [Now On Atom Tickets)

Update 09/17/18: AMC Stubs A-List is now on Atom Tickets.

AMC has today announced a cinema subscription service to compete with MoviePass & Sinemia called ‘AMC Stubs A-List‘. The service will officially be available from June 26th, 2018. You can see up to three movies per week at any AMC in the U.S., this includes premium screenings (Dolby Cinema ®, IMAX® at AMC®, PRIME at AMC®, RealD® 3D, BigD® and D-Box). You’re also able to make advance reservations online and via the app without any charge. It will cost $19.95 per month and there is no discount if you purchase a yearly membership, in addition you have to stay subscribed for at least three months when you initially sign up.

(Note: This is the old pricing) In terms of pricing MoviePass costs $9.95 per month, gives you unlimited screening (but can only see each movie once) and no premium screenings. Sinemia costs varies, but the standard plan is $9.95 for two movies per month with at least one screening that can be a premium screening. AMC Stubs A-List obviously only works at AMC locations, whereas MoviePass/Sinemia work with other brands as well. If you have an AMC near you and want the ability to see premium screens/movies more than once I can see the attraction to A-List. Personally I don’t see movies that often and I don’t care about premium screens that much, so the $19.95 pricing isn’t that attractive to me. Are you currently using MoviePass/Sinemia? Will you switch to AMC’s new offering? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments below.

So…see four AMC movies and get a free ticket to see a movie at Regal? At least for a limited time.

I want to point out that the write-up below the FAQ image is not correct anymore. MoviePass does not give unlimited screenings a month anymore (not for a while). Further, Sinemia actually does 3 movies for 9.99 right now (excluding premium), plus a variety of other pricing models. However, Sinemia also appears to have started charging an additional 99 cents ‘processing’ fee for each purchased ticket, in addition to any convenience fees that are already charged by 3rd parties.

Can you elaborate on this fee?

I don’t get charged a processing fee and I’ve been using sinemia for months.

What theater brand and what purchase site did you use?

Does A-list payment get 5% back on US Bank Cash Plus or 2x points for entertainment on Prestige?

I would think it qualifies on both cards based on my research of both.

i live chatted costco for a refund and they didn’t even ask why – they already know. the person just said “movie pass is going out of business. i’ve processed your refund.”

Which CC earns the best with AMC A List: Citi Thank You Preferred and Premier, Citi Prestige, CitiBusiness Thank You (4Q)?

There are a couple of points nobody here mentioned. Most importantly, the net cost is really $18.33 a month assuming you do the minimum of three months. That’s because for every $50 you spend, you earn 5000 points, which can be redeemed for a $5 reward towards pretty much anything. $55/3 – $18.33 (with 1000 points leftover, so on a 15 month subscription, you could theoretically save more if the current price lasts long enough).

Secondly, you get free refills on a large popcorn, free upgrades on sizes for fountain drinks (soda, etc) and popcorn, priority lines for ordering these in-theater, and the ability to order these ahead of arriving at the theater in the first place. You also earn the ability to get $16 annual popcorn bucket that gets $4.50 refills, which could be worth it if you go a ton, I suppose.

In my book, the biggest benefits besides what has already been discussed in the main post are the rewards-earning and the priority/advance concessions ordering.

The benefits you mention are not limited to A-list. The lower level Premier also has all those benefits. So if benefits is what one is after then go for Premier and not this A-list.

I am not solely after those benefits, but like with a hotel credit card, the more you use the benefits, the more they become worth to you

Anyone know yet if we will be able to get this for all members of our family – myself, hubby and kiddo?

AMC in my area doesn’t accept MoviePass, they accept sinemia though. To be able to use Moviepass at a Regal or other it would be a good 30 mins from my house. I would consider signing up for the AMC pass over the summer months or the winter months when all the blockbusters are coming out. otherwise i just dont see that many movies.

Last time I went to an AMC theater, there were obnoxious ads already running when we got to our seats early. Five minutes after the scheduled start time, They started the pre-movie ads and previews and filler, which ran for an unbelievable 35 minutes. I leaned over to my wife and said “They should be paying us to sit through this crap.”

Ditto. Went to see The Good Dinosaur a few years ago. By the time the ads and Pixar short film finished, it was fifty minutes past the show time. After the short film, one of the kids in the movie theater asked his mom disappointedly if the movie was over already. It hadn’t even started! Ridiculous!
