American Express To Open Largest Centurion Lounge In Atlanta Airport (ATL)

American Express has announced it will be opening the largest centurion lounge at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The new lounge will be 26,000 square feet and is expected to open in 2023. The lounge will be located in Concourse E, between domestic and international terminals. It will also contain multiple outdoor areas.

I wonder if this means Amex is preparing to end its partnership with Delta- at least the lounge part. I’d imagine the majority of Plat card holders using DL lounges do it on layovers at ATL. Maybe some use DL lounges at departure airports too, but it’s not always easy to get to. I’m not familiar with lounge options at other DL hubs, though.

Delta is one of, if not Amex’s most, valuable partner. I’d say these lounge changes to the Plat are to bring it in line with the Delta Reserve benefits, not just to reduce crowding

Already reading reports of overcrowding! But seriously…. how long til there’s a waitlist to get in like Vegas these days?

As an Atlanta airport captive, this is relevant to my interests.

ATL has a great priority pass lounge.

You sure? Priority pass site shows zero lounges in ATL –https://www.prioritypass.com/en/lounges/usa/atlanta-ga-international

Well, I was wrong, thanks! I guess something is off with the search function of PP’s site.

Maybe this is why they raised their annual fee and limit the number of free guests allowed in?

I think this is a huge part, but also the overcrowding in general. The DFW one often feels more like an IKEA cafeteria than a premium airport lounge. While I’m sure people could debate how premium the Plat card is nowadays, the image of the packed lounge is not one that Amex wants to convey.

What possible reason is there to travel to Atlanta?

I lived in Atlanta and I can confirm that there’s nothing worth visit in this city. However, the world busiest airport desperately needs big lounges.

Yeah I live here and I seriously think ATL is one of the most boring cities to go to. The aquarium and world of coke are the coolest but both can be done in 1 day.

People with mansions this size can host a party with dozens of guests plus servers, a band, etc. with lots of space available, but Amex won’t be able to do it.

Location at E terminal is very awkward, most would enter from the domestic side in terms of ground transportation convenience

Agree. The lounge is most appealing to non DL fliers and those flying AA or UA will have a 4 stop train ride to get to E. Great for a DL flier though!

Why do they need so much space if they’re going to make access more restrictive for member guests?
