American Express Will Send Out 1099-INT For Business Checking Bonus

American Express has sent out the following e-mail to customers that received a business checking bonus but didn’t receive a 1099-INT form earlier this year:

Due to a technical issue, we were delayed in issuing a 1099-INT tax statement for 2023 related to the welcome bonus for your account. We realize you may have already filed your taxes for 2023, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused.

To make things right, we’ve issued your 1099-INT tax statement. We mailed it to the address on file on April 9, 2024.

Normally when you say ‘to make things right’ you do something nice to make up for the error. I’m not sure sending the document you should have sent months ago really qualifies.

I oddly never received the corrected 1099 in the mail (all info up to date). I never got a notice that I was going to receive one, I proactively reached out via chat to CS inquiring whether I’d receive one in the mail and after expediting up the food chain the CS rep confirmed I’d be receiving one in the mail. Happen to anyone else? Torn whether to reach out again or treat it like I was never supposed to received a corrected 1099.

I got a 1099 for this bonus already months ago, and just got the “corrected” 1099 this week and everything is the same. Minor heartache over nothing, lots of incompetence over at Amex

The 1099 I got months ago was sent to me personally, this “corrected” 1099 is assigned to the business to which the account was opened under.

Is anyone able to find the equivalent of the mailed document in their account online?

Even after getting it late in mail, it is not updated online

Wow someone dropped the ball on that one. What’s a good way to handle these 1099s? For instance I had that US bank $600 promo last year. I tried logging in to get the 1099 it wasn’t available. I called in and had to get a supervisor involved who confirmed to me no 1099 was generated / issued. I luckily ended up finding a physical 1099 that was mailed to me, but had I not stumbled across this they would have told me it didn’t exist.

Well I guess some good came out of forgetting to make the debit card transactions here. No bonus, no taxes. That’s the big brain way

Serious question. Do I need to amend my taxes to include this or because it was after Jan 31st, will the IRS just notify me that I owe the extra amount?

They sent me a late 1099-INT for $12.52. Now I have to refile so the government can make their $4.00. Amex probably paid $4.00 to print and mail the letter. My IRS agent called me and said he doesn’t have time for this.
