Since we can’t buy variable load cards, the best option would be to purchase two $200 Amex gift cards. Since the fee is usually $6.95, it would end up $13.90 for the fees.
Stacking the Deal
This would be a nice deal for someone with a credit card that earns bonus points for office supplies.
An even better idea is to stack this together with the Amex Offer of $10 of $50 at Office Depot/Max. That Offer is still around until 12/31/2014.
Technically, you can split the charge between at least 6 registered Amex cards, as reported by Grant, and you’d end up with a great money-maker here. Of course, some cashiers may not appreciate splitting a charge 6 ways or more, so do what you’re comfortable with.

Our Verdict
This deal is mainly good for those with office supplies as a bonus category or for stacking with the Amex Offer. Without that, you’d just be profiting $1.10, since you’d have to liquidate them in place of regular credit card purchases, being that Amex gift cards don’t have PINs.
If I had an Office Depot nearby, I’d buy $300 worth of Amex gift cards, and try to split them between a few Amex cards that have the Amex Offer of $10 off.
On second thought, if I had an Office Depot nearby, I’d probably have already used up all my Amex Offers at Office Depot…
