Amex Revamps Online Login, Adds Rewards Totals For The Year

American Express recently released an update to the user interface in their online login. Last year, I gushed about the new rewards user interface; this update to the regular login does not get my approval. They also added a nice tool to their rewards details which adds up all the points earned in each category. (Thanks to clearing_sky for the image on this.)

Rewards Total

Here’s what the rewards totals looks like:

If accurate, it could be useful since many cards have limits, and seeing what you earned can help you know how much bandwidth remains. Just bear in mind it likely does not count what’s been earned since the last statement closed. Hopefully it counts everything before that (?).

New Interface

The other change which has been rolling out over the past few weeks/months is the look of the Statements & Transactions tab within the login (link); the tab I’d think most people use the most often. It’s okay, and adds access to various filtering options. It also seems to list the rewards earnings on the main Statements & Transactions tab (at least on some cards) which is nice since it saves from having to go to the updated Rewards tab to see it.

My main gripe is that you can’t easily toggle to old statements which I use much more frequently than advanced filtering options. You need to scroll down to toggle back to the previous month, and only then does the side-bar pop up with the option to see transactions from previous statements. It’s not terrible, will probably get used to it, but I definitely don’t like it.

Here’s the link to the old version which will hopefully work for a while. They have an option to switch yourself back to the old version, for me it sometimes pop up as an option and sometimes does not. There’s a pop up stating that they’ll be transitioning to the new login on May 1, after that time the link to the old version might no longer work.

Old UI was much more user-friendly when viewing monthly statements.

Still looks like shlt and not easy to track, especially you have to pay the minimun to get the points. Chase has the cleanest tracking system by far.

for OBC members they did away with the old “calendar” where you could check all your cat. spend from the anniversary date to current day up to 56500. Now you have to go by billing period and start with the period when your anniversary date kicks in. takes lots more time. Why this change/ Just to confuse me!!

I just download the whole history between the anniversary date and today, and then filter out relevant transactions

If they have too many extra employees they should lay off some from the Rat team…

My gripes about the new interface:

Clicking on a transaction now reloads the entire page, instead of having an expanding box.

They no longer seem to break out the tip as a separate line for restaurant charges.

They’ve removed the ability to see all balances and due dates at a glance.
