It did not track for me automatically but a quick email to support was enough to get the card.

Sounds like some people are fortunate enough to still have free accounts. I was told they would reactive me with a free account and they are in the process of converting all free accounts and I will have 60 days notice of when it’s converted.

They just reactivated it with a paid account from the start.

And they said:

“Thank you for the reply and happy to help! At the time you spoke with the representative, not all accounts had been moved to our new $5 100% clean energy plan. It just so happened that during the point of your re-activation, that all accounts had then been moved to our flat $5/month 100% clean energy plan, so you were unable to have received notice via email due to your account having been closed. This means your account was not able to be re-activated on our Free plan, because it no longer existed. ”

Since so many people still have free plans, sounds like they were just making stuff up. And what’s with the new dashboard/statement format? It seems so low tech compared to before.

I’ll take the $25 though. 😀

Whether you were grandfathered into the free account relates to state laws I believe. I can’t say which specific state law but I do not think they would willingly grandfather free accounts in unless certain state laws regarding utility providers applied.

I can’t believe they would be regulated as a utility provider. They just pay your bill for you.

No, they actually own some of the solar projects that you can sign up for. I think the states where the service is free is where they own solar projects. 90% of my electricity comes from a solar project Arcadia owns in my state of IL. They generate the electricity and ComEd delivers it. The solar electricity is about 40% cheaper than ComEd’s. Additionally I get some kind of credit from ComEd for them delivering solar generated electricity? I don’t fully understand it but I am certain the current setup is advantageous because of tax breaks Arcadia gets.

One of the easiest ones.
I got the message that credit will be applied by Sept 30, not sure if it rolled into Sept as I did it technically on 9/1.

Seems this will be a weekly thing. Any idea when does the trivia week start and end?
Please do post when the next week’s ‘Electrivia’ becomes available.
