The Fine Print

  • April 22nd, 2023

Our Verdict

There has been issues with Avianca transfers taking a long time and this is a tiny transfer bonus but I guess if you really need the miles it might be worth the risk.

Lifemiles redemption availability changes like the weather—some routes show zero availability for months out and then a flight pops up by surprise. Also, they make you pay generous penalties when you cancel or change flights, and/or rebank Lifemiles; not as friendly as AA, United, and Delta are now with reward flight changes.

Good point, fee varies depending on the zone.
Award Booking Fee– LifeMiles charges a non-refundable award booking fee for all awards including those booked online. The standard fee is $25, but it is reduced for some U.S. flights, which is divided into 3 zones detailed above.

$10 for U.S. flights within the same zone.
$15 for U.S. flights to/from “United States 2.”
$25 for “United States 1” to/from “United States 3.”

Can probably stack with Citi Thank You points with 10% transfer rebate via Citi Rewards+. The Avianca transfer bonus is rather weak though.
