[Expired] Award Fare: 10,000 AA Miles Roundtrip to AKL or SYD from SEA, SFO, DFW, LAX, NYC

Deal is no longer available, sign up for hot deal alerts to never miss a deal like this again.

Update:

  • One way flights available for 6,000 miles
  • Other city pairings are possible (e.g SFO, DFW, LAX, NYC, SEA to AKL or SYD)
  • Availability seems to start in October/November and end in March
  • Make sure you click ‘Economy Web Specials’ after entering dates to see this pricing

The Offer

  • You can currently book LAX > AKL for 10,000 American Airline miles round trip. Looks like dates in January & February 2020 are available under web specials.

Our Verdict

I think AA just announced this routing (actually it was different New Zealand routings) and they have been talking about dynamic award pricing, so I’m sure this is a 100% totally legit sale (just don’t book anything non refundable in case they cancel it). Won’t last long.

Super deal – personality a hard pass tho 13.5hrs in coach seats on a 787 – esp on AA metal.

We’re planning a trip next year – touring the Trans Alpine Train and train from Wellington to AKL.

31″ seat pitch and seat width 16.2-17.2″? No thank you! That is ridiculous…31″ seat pitch for that long of a flight…for AA. My standards have fallen.

Manlets. I’m 6’2″ so what I normally do is book in F/J and then get seats for my 2 girlfriends in Y.

awesome…too bad already have a trip planned in this time area.

March shows some LAX-AKL for 5k, but no way to get back for cheap. Low on AA miles…

NZ not high on my list, already been there…could go back again…too bad this isn’t further out!

Thanks though!

Might be have been worthwhile if RT was available – and was they were booking for next fall could go with extended family for those miles.

Suprising that they are running the trip during NZ summer. (Winter 2020).

dates going fast but I saw DFW to AKL too for 5K

You can book a one-way for 6K miles. Same price for other cities to AKL, as long as there is saver award space (I looked at SFO). Leaving AKL, it only works to LAX.

There is a lot more space to AKL, from Jan to March but much more limited return space. I just booked a one-way to AKL. If I end up using this I don’t think it will be that difficult to find a return award flight.

Funnily enough, SFO-LAX was pricing out at 7.5K miles, vs 6K for SFO-LAX-AKL. But the 6K price is a web special fare, so no changes.

Hawaii fares too, seeing some dates at 5K+ between NYC and different islands.

And I only booked the outbound, can’t book inbound now. Can I cancel within 24 hours?

Jake Yes.

No since hold was an option. Good news is AA may not honor thus you will get a full refund if thats the case.Otherwise is probably cheaper to buy the miles than the cancel fee

There is no relation there. Hold is often an option. AA says tickets are refundable up to 24 hours after purchase https://www.aa.com/i18n/customer-service/faqs/customer-service-faqs.jsp

Got DFW-LAX-AKL, AKL-LAX-DFW for 12.5k AA + $75

Thanks Doc!

I couldn’t get DFW to search at all. What dates did you book?

How big is a chance this will be honored by AA?

I’m wondering if this will be a new trend for new routes. With the recent announcement of nonstop to New Zealand and all the dynamic pricing hoopla, I’m actually starting to believe it wasn’t an error, but more of a first come first serve introduction.

Mine was ticketed. So looking good so far!
