Bad News: Topcashback Limits their Best Rate Match, Affects 5% eBay

Best Rate Guarantee

A few of the major shopping portals offer a guarantee to match the best rate available, see Highest Cash Back Guarantee for Online Shopping Portals. Befrugal, Shopathome, and Topcashback all offer this match, but the Topcashback offer was really the sweet one since they matched almost any portal, an unlimited number of times. Conversely, Shopathome only matches the bigger shopping portals and Befrugal only honors one claim per merchant.

Topcashback Changes Terms

The gravy train has now come to an end and Topcashback has now added new terms in the guarantee to only include the bigger shopping portals. (Link)

Here’s the list:

  • Befrugal
  • Ebates
  • Extrabux
  • Fat Wallet
  • Mr Rebates
  • Shopathome

This puts Topcashback exactly on par with Shopathome and it, in fact, makes Shopathome even better due to the fact that they add on a bonus when matching other portals.

The eBay 5% Angle

This is bad news all over, but where it hits particularly hard for us right now is the fact that the Inbox Dollars shopping portal is currently offering 5% back on all eBay purchases, see 5% Back on all eBay Purchases with Inbox Dollar Portal. Since we aren’t familiar with that portal, we advocated going through Topcashback and getting matched instead.

Under the new terms this will not work as Inbox Dollars is not one of the portals eligible for matching. We’ll need to go through Inbox Dollars itself to get the 5%. While no one has yet gotten their purchases showing in the Inbox Dollars account, we’ve already confirmed that the purchases are tracking properly, including gift card purchases, and we hope that there should not be any hitch with the payout there.

Note that we don’t know exactly which date Topcashback changed the terms. I’m going to try filing some claims and ask them to match it based on the old terms and see how it goes. It will probably get initially declined, but hopefully they’ll give us some leeway since they just changed the rules.

Just wanted to give some feedback on this ordeal. I was one of the people that used TopCashBack on 9/17, but then got screwed when the terms changed on 9/21 after submitting a claim on 9/20. I politely went back and forth a couple of times with TCB and in the end they did the right thing and honored their highest cashback claim. One thing I found on TCB is their fair play policy (https://www.topcashback.co.uk/about?cat=FairPlay) which I used in my argument for them to honor their highest cashback claim. I don’t know if that made a difference or not, but it is worth noting. Good luck!

Do I get double cashback using topcashback website? Say if I have a Discover Card which gives 5% cashback on amazon shopping and topcashback gives 6% cashback? Let me know if I can combine the above 2 offers.

please note that inboxdollars has a minimum of $30 to cash out and charges a $3 fixed fee for all money transfers regardless of the amount.

It’s possible they give you a chance to get the $3 fee waived if you get to a certain level in 30 days. A similar site I belong to does that. For example, if you request payment at $30 they might give you a chance to waive the fee if you get to $40 within 30 days.

Sorry for the confusion, Maybe is just the physical visa gift card processing fee, if you just want the number for electronic redemption, it’s free but if you want a plastic card, it think is when they apply the fee, I don’t see any mention of the fee on the check part, but their support page is not very helpful, I’ll know until I can cash out.

Also the check option says it takes anywhere from 10 – 16 days to process.

If they are like the other site that I mentioned they will give a $3 credit upon redemption which effectively pays for the fee. You get this even if you have the fee waived.

Luckily ebay kept returning an error during checkout when paying with giftcards earlier since I went through topcashback. That would have been only 1%. Gonna go though inboxdollars then when I get home.

Declined 4 claims as well… Since the rules were changed sometime yesterday anyway we can fight this?

\If they have any integrity they’ll honor all purchases made before the terms and conditions were changed. It’s the right thing to do. Good luck with it, keep us posted please.
